first review for me. I guess this record compelled me to write.
Global Goon - Cradle of History (Cat. 058 LP '2 vinyl exclusive tracks')
This album makes me cry. It's brilliant. I passed up Witchman's
"Explorimenting Beats" and Chocolate Weasel's "Spegettification". After
hearing those albums, I was left feeling dull and lifeless. Sure I laughed
at those Chocolate Weasel samples and thumped along to Witchman but c'mon I
want real music boys! I hate all of this intelligent noodling sounding
crap, that's the first shit that I throw over board the sinking ship!
Yes the album review. Well can't start without a cover art review. A
woman closing her eyes is digitized on the cover. All of the art has a
nice digital look to it. Did I mention that it has a cut-out back so you
can stand it up on your mantle. Contrast that to the music which is (or
sounds like) analog. A real (sampled? Either way they are nice) drum kit
is used in the second track "funkydrunk". Along with some moogish keyboard
melodies with electric bass acompaniment. It offers sort of that cheesy
loungish beat which makes me think of how much fun I should be having
rather than being all serious. "jazz intro" has a silly chorus, and is
more fun than the Bentley's and Chocolate Weasel samples put together.
What can you say? It sounds like the unique rephlex sound. Ambient with
nice drums, that's what I'll say. "dum dar dee," what's that I hear? Dum
da dee! Well not singing self improvized vocalization from mr. Hawk I'm
assuming? It's ethereal. On the flipside, hereon a different path starts
with "quirkytill". An undescribably nice track with cheeky samples of
ringing cash registers and hand claps, old skool style. "duck soup" also
relys on samples to tug the song along. It's a bit of an odd/lousy track.
"dh" is danceable. Though most tracks ("Prince") fall under a quiet wash
of laid back beats and chirpy keyboards. "mim" is 80's funky drum pattern
and happy sounding blah blahing melodies. Very happy! Go ahead and head
"rockford" in there too for the dancey blah blah melodies. The last track
"False Epic" which is Vinyl Only!! Is great. Cradle of History is
unmissable! 9/10
Cheers
