Inch-Time album, also on Static Caravan (but only available to download when I last checked their shop) is really quite nice, in a laptop folk-y kinda way, but with greater use of strings, bells, gongs and timpani. The man is a doctor by day apparently (where does he find the time you'd wonder...) The Tunng album is the bizz alright ; the Beta Band meets the Books kinda thing, I love it. The single The Maypole Song, is really really weird, and may or may not be a cover of a song from the Wicker Man movie ? Perhaps somebody could verify this... Greg Davis and Sebastian Roux's Paquet Surprise is similar to the Tim Hecker/Fennesz way with melody and noise, but is charmingly blissful. Also digging Ricardo Villalobos' new release Achso on Cadenza - he is one of a few producers whose work is truly worthy of the term "intelligent dance music". Anybody else heard any of this guy Nathan Fakes stuff ? I've only got Dinamo, released on Traum in 2005, but this too is a beautifully constructed piece of math house par excellence. He's an album due soon on Border Community that I just might have to pick up. |---------+----------------------------> | | David Sim | | | <pmxds@nottingham| | | .ac.uk> | | | | | | 06/02/2006 17:17 | | | | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: idm@hyperreal.org | | cc: | | Subject: Re: [idm] Pale Glitter | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Yes!!!! When I were a lad, whenever anyone got a record they liked, they'd stick some sort of micro-review on idm-l to let other people know and spread the love. These days the first you hear about it is when they sell it on ebay. I don't know why this has happened but it's really annoying - I got a lot of my favorite records after people around here recommended them. Not really IDM (although there are some glitches in there) but the Tunng album rocks, and the new EP with the Bloc Party cover rocks even more. Sileni's also fantastic on an IDM / minimal DnB crossover tip. Dave (Sorry about the threadkenstein resurrection of a rather old post.) Yep. I've heard 'Outhouse' 12", which is a trip. Takes BoC-style detuned synths for a trip on a self-consciously banging tech-house Doofdoof-fest. Tartan! If you like Dinamo check out "The Sky was Pink" by Nathan Fake. Its a bit more spacey, but you can definetely play it on the dance floor for sure. On 2/6/06, Alan Lockett <Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk> wrote:

OK, a few bits and pieces on Young Master Fake. He was tipped for stardom in The Observer Music Monthly recently: <http://observer.guardian.co.uk/omm/story/0,,1689124,00.html> FYI, "...Now returning to Border Community, Nathan Fake is set to release his debut album 'Drowning In A Sea Of Love', a truly enchanting collection of rocktronica at its finest - loaded with casio riffs, soaring fake-guitar lead lines, single live take recordings and a heap of lighters-in-the-air moments. Containing the original live take of the psychedelic epic 'The Sky Was Pink' (prior to its remix transformation into the electro anthem of last summer), in addition to recent 7" 'Grandfathered' this is a ballsy, gutsy eleven track wall of computer-noise, underlined by a rock-solid production ethic which belies Fake's tender years..." [from <http://www.progressive-sounds.com/features/Nathan-Fake-Drowning-In-A-Sea-Of-Love.asp>] I know it's only 'progressive house', but (for some reason) I like it. Also noticed the following in Philip Sherburne's blog at <http://www.philipsherburne.com/> January 25, 2006 Drowning in a sea of love The first 62 seconds of Apparat's remix of Nathan Fake's "Charlie's House" ? give or take a few uncountable milliseconds spent exhaling ? are enough to send me to my knees, arms thrown up like Willem Defoe in Platoon. Possibly the most perfect minute of music I've heard yet this year. Viva electremo! Not sure where this Apparat remix is available though. alan ---------------------- Alan Lockett (Senior Language Co-ordinator - EFL) Language Centre, University of Bristol, 30-32 Tyndall's Park Road, Bristol, BS8 1PY, UK tel: +44 (0)117 3310914 e-mail: Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

[SNIP] I don't think he will ever top Dinamo. I went to see him live a couple of weeks back and while it was good, alot of the stuff wasn't a patch on Dinamo. He sounds alot like M83 to me.
