Wish I could characterise this as a 'Return to Form', but, though it is excellent, the fact is it's 3 compiled releases from 2002-3 period when they were doing what seems to me was their best work - i.e. the 'Bourbon Sounds', 'Parts 5', and 'Elaztiq' EPs. I don't know if it's just me but everything they've done since, e.g. 'Demsongzbywe', 'Smizm', and 'Refurbished 1' seems either unfocused or over-wanky (not to mention 303-obsessed) by comparison. alan ---------------------- Alan Lockett (Senior Language Co-ordinator - EFL) Language Centre, University of Bristol, 30-32 Tyndall's Park Road, Bristol, BS8 1PY, UK tel: +44 (0)117 3310914 e-mail: Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, Demsongzbywe/Refurbished 1 are remixes, and some of them are also pretty old. I think the thing is that it's just been a really long time since Funckarma did a full-length of new stuff (aside from the Shadow Huntaz stuff, which I haven't really been into at all). I mean, dang, Solid State came out in 2001! I really liked the 12" they did for Skam this year, and I LOVED the Cane 12" on Arcola (still need to track down their previous 12"s under that name on Colony). And I have no problems with (over?)use of the 303. So yeah, a nice brand new album of new track by Funckarma would be pretty awesome. Let's not forget their work as Quench. Dyn and Exclude are pretty awesome, and Punctuated and A Journey Into Electronix are great, too... Counting those, their last full-length came out in 2003 (Dyn, I think). -Adam Piontek damek.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

No, let's not. I have Quench in mind as well. In fact, I've been unable to make a hard and fast distinction between what they do as Funckarma and what as Quench. As pointed out here, the last *new* Quench material was in 2003, and likewise, as observed in my original post, 2003 was the year Funckarma last gave us quality material. (BTW, I found their Cane 12" on Arcola to be essentially rather throwaway 303-on-boyracerautopilot acid-techno, and their Skam Unknown Artist 12" an amusing acid-electro-breakbeat pile-up, but neither quite the proper Funcken thing). alan --On 03 January 2006 09:25 -0500 Adam Piontek <adam@damek.org> wrote:

the last Quench material was in 2005 on our NOW 02 EP (the track titled "Slick") and the last quality Funckarma material (in our opinion) was on the NOW 01 EP also released in 2005 =) for more info on those releases check our (temporary) site: http://www.underscan.de cheerio mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
