TONIGHT...IT'S ON! If you're not completely excited already, read on. These are a few quotes I pulled off of a message board from when Dan Bell played this October in Australia. Before the show: - "I haven't been this excited about a DJ in a very, very long time. I'm like a kid at Christmas." - "Quite possibly the best news I've heard this year. Those who have heard his Button Down Mind mixes know that they are absolute perfection. Cannot be missed." - "See y'all front and center! Can't believe I can finally tick his name off my DJ's I need to see before I die list!" - "SO excited, next to Hawtin I'm pretty confident this will be gig of the year." - "DBX is the shit. He killed it when I saw him a few months back." - "I think a lot of people have been waiting a long time for this to happen. His Globus mix played a very influential role in getting me into the minimal house sound. Can't wait for it." - "Dan Bell was the business in Sydney. ...Fucking legend who provides you with the very definition of minimal house. Essential." After the show: - "Done deal. He brought it right and proper DBX style...just as we dared to hope. *Best International of 2005.* - "Absolutely stunning set. My fave for a long, long time." - "Dan Bell: The smoothest smooth walker in minimal. Loved his old school minimal stuff, and the old housier stuff as well." - "Bloody awesome night. Bloody awesome crowd. Bloody awesome Bell." - "Tops, tops, tops. Dan Bell…so very good. Now that's what it's all about." ______________________________________________ Saturday, December 17th [ K O N T R O L ] minimal techno + avant house every 3rd Saturday at Rx Gallery Featuring from Berlin, Germany: DANIEL BELL aka DBX *Extended 3 hour set!* Plus 8 - Accelerate - 7th City - Peacefrog Tresor - Novamute - Transmat - Perlon Poker Flat - M_nus - Palette - Telegraph From his Detroit beginnings on Plus 8 Records with partners Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, to his current status as world-renowned producer and DJ, Daniel Bell is one of the most important and respected names in the history of dance music. His stripped-down funky style, epitomized in his underground hit "Losing Control", influenced a generation of producers and helped launch a new "minimal" aesthetic in dance music. In 1991, he started his own label, Accelerate, on which he released his influential releases as DBX. Based on nearby Chicago "track" records, he reduced that sound further into funky, streamlined grooves. The formula proved to be successful and helped launch a new aesthetic in techno and house music known as "minimal". With the overwhelming success of his "Losing Control" single in 1994, Daniel set up 7th City Distribution in order to assist smaller Midwest labels to get distribution in overseas markets. He also created three new labels - 7th City, Elevate and Harmonie Park . In 2000, he relocated to Berlin, Germany , and released his first mix CD, "The Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell", on Tresor Records, followed in 2003 by "The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!" He since has produced a series of remixes for a diverse range of artists, including John Tejada, Pantytec, Akufen and Martin Landsky. He has spent the last 2 years traveling and DJing around the world, and is currently touring the U.S. and preparing to hunker down in the studio in the coming year. Think again whoever placed that commentary.. I've seen hawtin and bell at least 12 times each, I've been to richies ctrl parties and have been right behind him on stage observing his mixing. Richie is awesome, his new track on the de9 record, twin cities is the heat, but richie is hit and miss, dan bell is way better. The poor guy is very underrated, he is an amazing dj/producer and he's been around longer than most. Richieholics are like deadheads, you can't convince them that anything richie touches isn't gold. But at this years detroit festival, I had to walk out on richie and couldn't be pried away from bell, luciano, or jeff samuel in that underground stage all day. A 45 minute build just doesn't cut it for me, if it did I would mark out for paul van dyk and tiesto, and I have a strong feeling this will never happen. You kids on the west coast are in for a treat. That said, I still want to see the de9 dvd. Hit and miss means hits some of the time.
