Heh; nice one. Its kind of throwaway, distort-o-jungle. Lots of snappy, rattling snare sounds and the odd, Mu-Ziq style 8-bit melodies - there were also some small bits of melted plastic or something stuck to my copy but if anything, it makes it sound better by jumping the rhythms around :) Half the time, he's taking the piss though. If you've heard enough jungle, you've probably heard that effect where they get some rude boy saying some words, and they then repeat it with a sort of echoing, flanging, fast noise gate effect over the top. Richard immediately does the same on _Children Talking_ but with a kids voice saying "mashed potatoes" instead. Well I laughed. I can't imagine the junglists being too impressed though... Ah, sod 'em. This is a great bit of noisy, breakbeat pillaging fun and I love it. || [CiM] || s.walley@uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/

Very noodly. Some of the best IDM/techno/etc. belies the amount of time it took to create. "Hangable Auto Bulb" makes it obvious. Here's a tip: It should take somewhat longer to create a track than the actual duration of the track.

On the disc itself, track 7 is actually Arched Maid Via RDJ (the 5+ minute track with metallic synth solo) and track 8 is Every Day (3+ minute track with vocal samples). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Mine has: 7. Every Day (3:48) 8. Arched Maid Via RDJ (5:21) bought in Fopp, Cambridge, on Monday. Weeeird. Could be the non-UK pressings are screwed up. the theoretical capacity is 74 minutes - don't know whether this is exact or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_disc i wouldn't put more than 70 minutes on a cd. maybe it's just superstition, but i reckon the edges get dirty and damaged sooner than the middle, and if there are any slight manufacturing flaws the effect would be magnified towards the edge. if the drive has been designed with no spare anything then it might be at the edge of its engineering tolerance too - meaning that the tracking has a greater chance of failing right at the outside edge. but then i am a nervous type. i know some scary people that go right up to the 74, or more, even on commercial mass market releases! cheerio paul On 7 Nov 2005, at 17:14, > wrote:

80 minutes is what you'll typically find most CDR's to be. There is some burning software that will allow you to go over that, with the warning that it may not burn properly or be playable in all players. 80 minutes is standard - shorter 70 or 74 (I don't recall exactly what the shorter ones run at) minute CDR's may not play in older CD players, as the width of the tracks is not the same (that's why they're shorter - they use just as much area as the longer discs for less data). The Red Book specification for CD length is 74 minutes: http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid5_gci503642,00.html Any CD longer than that is technically out of spec. Your statement above is exactly backwards--it's CDs longer than 74 minutes that might have problems (although those problems are quite rare). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yes. It's still the defining specification for CD audio, though. If you're worried about compatibility with all players (as the original poster specifically asked about), you should comply with the Red Book and keep your CDs 74 minutes or less (and use 74-minute CD-Rs; an 80-minute CD-R isn't Red Book even if it has less than 74 minutes of audio on it). But it's mostly a theoretical problem. Even my first CD player (c. 1985) had no trouble with >74 minute CDs. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That's how mine looks - Australian copy, promo but full artwork, and I know Inertia (Aus distributor) just takes stock from the UK. The track names are wrong, but the track lengths correspond to what actually are tracks 7 & 8. eBay collectors, get ready! One day these mis-printed CD versions will be EXTREMELY RARE and worth BIG BUX. Haha.
