Ah man, this is so nice, i actually have a night at home, and for the first time in so long, i have nothing to do but relax and listen to music. Its excellent! Supping my beer and smoking my *ahem* cigarette, heres some thoughts on recent musics i been listening to.. Monolake - Polygon Cities - this is by far the best purely electronic record i have bought or listened to it in so long. Its not trying to be clever or different, just nice clean and new sounding analog and digital noise and in a completely classic sorta techno structure. You know someone has some magic when they can still sound mind blowing original while working within a quite distinctive genre. Modeselektor - Hello Mom! - I was really interested in hearing this after the recent discussions on here, and have to agree that its excellent as well, also very fresh sounding, sorta mashup but in a more refined manner. For the people that havent heard it, its like a melting pot of comedy skit intros, chunky tech breaks, ragga sounds, hip hop stylings, and low down dirty techno basslines. Entertaining and excellent. [ i have this annoying habit of heading up to Glasgow for excellent gigs and then missing the headline band - Autechre a few months back, and this time Modeselektor!!! argh ] Murcof - Remembranza - I only bought this a few days back and havent given it much chance yet, but i kinda feel like i want my money back! Its all quite nice and well done, but it sounds like outtakes from the first album, same formula to it all, but like big long 10 minute ambient tracks that just seem to meander. Small Melodies - this a compilation on Spexx records out of Japan, more microsound, featuring Sogar, Taylor Deupree, Oren Ambarchi, Fenton (whose album i loved), Anderegg, Stephan Matthieu, and a few others. I've heard lots of ace things about it, but i have to admit, again, i feel like i wasted my money. Its all nice and its exactly what you would expect from the artists, but somehow i just felt it was going to have some progression to it, or something new, but its just so predictable. sun0))) - Black One - I fucking love this band! they're just nuts. I really liked that thread on here last week about noise bands, and wanted to join in, but just didnt have time to type. Theres a massive crossover here in London and Brighton for noise and electronic shows, and i really think its the way forward. So much electronic music has become too clean, the sound pallette to easy to digest and not very challenging, all the things that made electronic music so appealing and original in the early nineties, after being repeated for 15 years lose a lot of their appeal. I think a classic good example of crazy punk noise and electronics mixing well in a live environment is.. DJ Scotch Egg - KFC Core - amazing live, so bloody entertaining and fun. If you havent seen or heard this guy, basically he has two gameboys and a mixer, producing some seriously noisey 8bit gabba beats and feedback, while he has a megafone and a mic and shouts fuck-off a lot while jumping around or fiddling with the gameboys (oh yeah and throwing Scotch Eggs at the crowd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_egg) sometimes). Don't get me wrong, its definitelty novelty value, but Shige/Scotch Egg has a million other musical projects going on, and hes just having fun. I think i posted the link for his video before? http://www.nothing-to-see-here.com/scotchegg.php what else? *flicks to itunes* Oh yeah, speaking of sun0))), theres another really good Stephen O'Malley project called Khanate, which is kinda similar to sun0))) but with, i dunno, its sorta different but not that much, itsa bit more slightly, slightly uptempo! maybe more evil or something.. Danger Doom -The Mouse And The Mask - DJ Danger Mouse and MF Doom collaborate on a most excellent hip hop adventure. Classic sounding hip hop funky breaks, with the lush comedic voice of Doom over the top. Thats not much of a review! but yeah, i'm enjoying it a lot actually. Aiiight, i'm tired typing, if you're still reading here, you're probably bored as well! I found this site today from Jayce Claytons blog - http://www.blentwell.com/ Lots of DJ mixes, in different styles but there were three sorta booty/grime mashups i thought were really good: Dj Family - Ghetto Bang Down DJ Cutlass Supreme - 30 min workout The TAPE aka Robert Koch - In the Mix What else is new and good out there, any more recommendations? agree or disagree with any of these opinions? cheers, thor :------------------------------:----------------------------------------: : Highpoint Lowlife Records -- indie/electronic noise since 01 ---: : http://www.highpointlowlife.com/ -------------------------------------: :------------------------------: --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Thanks for sharing, Thorsten. I wish all IDM-l posts were like this. I, too have been enjoying Modeselektor. Reminds a bit of Funkstorung in the late '90s, but updated. I have been enjoying the music of another duo even more: Bitstream. Really good modern electro. fans of Tri-Repetae and Schematic(as in Phoenicia at their funkiest) are advised to take a listen. Really booty shakin' but with experimental elements. Also, the track "Leraine" (a collaboration w/Kettel) on Secede's new album, Tryshasla, is an instant classic, in a very upbeat BoC kinda way. Solid beat with gorgeous synthlines. ----- Original Message ----- From: "thorsten Sideb0ard" <thorsten@highpointlowlife.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, October 13, 2005 12:17 PM Subject: [idm] some new records..

Amen to that! For my part, I'm still getting quite excited by the Grim Dubs and by the, erm, stuff coming from Stuff Records - it's good to hear something a bit cheap, dirty and creative.
