Hi all, I dont have any experience doing this so just wondering if any of you can suggest a free program (for PC) to rip snippets of a DVD and save to my hard drive as AVI or MPEG. Also, I saw DVDx on sourceforge.net and wanted to know if that will do it and how that rates with you.. thanks much Eric Roth eroth001@aol.com

If you want MPEG2 files, DVD Decrypter[1] and Cuttermaran[2] is the way to go. If you want AVI, DVD Decrypter[1] and VirtualDub-MPEG2[3] is probably what you want. DVD43 is also highly recommended, as it will help remove most encryption on the DVDs. Most rippers also sport some feature like this. And basically check out the links provided above. I have found that it takes an arsenal of different progs in order to manage all aspects of ripping / burning / converting video. Some free, Some not.
