Hello everyone! I'm going to be in NYC and Philadelphia from the 3rd to the 11th of July and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for music shopping. I've been to some of the usual suspects in NYC (other music, halcyon), but I was wondering if there was anything I was missing. I know nothing about Philadelphia so anything would help. Thanks for any help in advance. ..jonathan.a --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

in Philly: Try 611 records just off 4th & South Street, it's run by Nigel Richards. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Big ups to the 611 crew. If you're looking for microhouse or something like, either talk to Sean or go through his picks. You'll also find neat stuff like Apparat and Akufen buried in there. Also: Cue Records, which is 2 doors south of 611. The selection is pretty scattered, but if you're willing to dig through piles of absolutely horrible vocal house records, some real gems can be found. That's where I got my copy of Space, dalek versus Velma, and a few other lovely chunks of wax. Spaceboy. On south street, a few blocks west of 611, on the south side of the street. I don't remember the cross street, but hey, whatever. Not much in the way of dance music, but it's the only place I've been able to find Crime in Choir, Laibach, The Pixies, and Alec Empire versus Elvis Presley, all in one place, all on record. Warning: you will have to deal with emo kids, but at least the employees are really cool. Digital Ferret. 5th and south, across from Johnny Rockets, and north a bit. More for the stompystomp oontzoontz graver crowd, but they have an INCREDIBLE selection of cd's, and I found Geogaddi on record there before anywhere else in the city even had it on CD. They have a somewhat small record selection, but they are guaranteed to have things that you absolutely will not find anywhere else in this city. If you're one of those pretentious bastards that thinks everything on the Hands label is gold, this is where you want to shop. Plus, the owner has fangs. Additionally, there are a LOT of used record stores lurking about of of south street, so if you're looking for a copy of Space Oddity for $2 or so, walk up and down the side streets between 3rd and 7th, you'll probably find it. There are also a few places in old city (north of market street, somewhere between front and third) that have names I can't remember that are worth checking out, but being that I live a few blocks south of all of the aforementioned places, and the public transportation here is akin to a football bat, I don't get up to old city often, unless it's to dj or get drunk with jersey trash. (no offense, cross- river folks.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Check out etherea on Avenue A between 4th and 5th Street. I wouldn't go there looking for breakcore, though. Matt --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
