Despite the bad reviews I still want to see Autechre because I'll be in Atlanta for the night. I haven't lived there in four years and I don't have anyone to go to the show with, is anyone else going to it? $15 at the Variety Playhouse if you don't know. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? $15! it was $20 in nyc. and btw my own review wasn't bad. judging from the responses, it depends on what night you catch them on. such is the nature of improvised music. it's worth it to go in case they hit it on the head. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

We're coming down from Nashvegas to see the show - wouldn't miss it. I'll extend the same offer here as I did over at watmm - I'm bringing some of my own music down to give away, so if you can find me (or want to send me a way to find you) you can leave the show with a brand new CD or two for your listening pleasure. I'm the dude with red hair, glasses and the Ae2001 tour shirt. :) Email if you want, and you can check http://www.offnominal.com - there's some pics lurking around there somewhere. if you get a chance to see this show, just go. you won't be dissapointed. as many have stated, rob hall is an amazing dj and is worth the price of admission on it's own. SND played a drippy, clicky 4/4 set of abelton style loops and massive tweakery. and autechre was just amazing. their production/recording techniques are top notch, and their set was more danceable than the last three albums. the music they play will never be released, so you might as well go for that alone. obviously being a fan of the 'new' autechre helps, but the feeling one is left with after their performance is simply breath taking. it was like being inside of the gantz graf video... where they suck you in with huge enveloping textures, slow it down to talk to you in that little micro glitch voice, then turn up the terror and completly destroy you and any notion you may have about what AE is. plus the venue in atlanta was very cool, with theather style seating in the back and a general pit area in front of the stage for dancing. this was nice as you could sit or stand for the entire show, or bounce between the two. the auditorium was non-smoking, so it was nice and easy to breath inside. the total darkness was expected, and while it didn't make for great photos ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/xenlab/sets/396875/) I was able to capture the mood of the event with my digital elph's video feature. Once I compress the clips I caught (I didn't record the whole thing) into a decent enough quicktime movie I will post it to the list. The clips, once strung together, do give an approximate feel for the overall experience and soundscapes. i hear ae, xenlab On 5/26/05, Irene McC <substar@iafrica.com> wrote:

+ Splendid magazine dissects track 2 on the EP - Disastrato's on Disastrato's latest release: "Desirez Rien (After a Rice Kick" is the real draw -- it's an actual new track from Disastrato himself. It's about half the previous track's length, but has far more intriguing (and coherent) ideas. As it opens, the sounds of heavy industry -- typewriters, chains, bars -- clang violently, then stop abruptly. A haunting passage follows: a choir repeats a depressive melody over the sound of heavy rain. A woman coughs and cries softly in the background, her choked sobs occasionally breaking through into the foreground of this disturbing, occasionally frightening composition. Try spinning it in the car while it's raining to get the full effect. Taken together, the two songs provide an interesting look into Disastrato's work.... it would make a perfect soundtrack to a David Lynch short film." + Other reviews of Dissecting Disastratos: + ANGRYAPE: http://www.angryape.com/reviews/2005/02/disastrato-dissecting-disatratos + STATIC BEATS: http://www.staticbeats.com/reviews.php?id=58 + Purchase the download here :: http://www.emusic.com/album/10852/10852347.html
