hi list, it's that time again to grab some new needlz for the 1200's and i've been using shure m35x's - which i can't really complain about other than they don't look as cool as some other needles. i don't scratch and prefer the minimal record wear etc. just wondering what other people are using... what other brands might be worth considering. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

hey, I use Ortofon nightclub s needles. They are the "bananna" style w/ a yellow stylus that has an S on them. I've been using them for about 3 years and I love them. There are also the ortonfon concord dj series. I haven't personally used them but I heard they are good for the price. The thing I like about the Ortofons is you just can replace the stylus after it starts to wear out which is much cheaper then having to buy a new set of needles. I think sixstardj has a really good price on them. hope that helps. rob pinkelton wicham wrote:

if your purpose is to just listen back, sample, your best bet other than "very" expensive audiophile cartridges is the "Stanton 681EEEE" ...it is preferred by many old-school engineers and studio owners for play back of wide range material. Second to that id say "Shure m447" which can take some abuse such as scratching and stuff...any of these are way better than the Ortofon's or like particularly in sound quality, but are more delicate which in return saves your wax!!!! also upgrading to a better pre-amp(RIAA) can make a huge difference too. good luck. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Really, the Shure m447s? I heard they are pretty much only for scratch. I know that the whitelabels are more for audiophile's then the m477s. I haven't had a problem with record wear with any needles. m447's response to low-end is happening...some like bass-mid emphasis and these deliver well. Needles in a way are like microphones, one for every different purpose :) However the Stanton681 for sampling could hardly be beat. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
