Tonight @ Danny's: 1951 W. Dickens, Chicago, IL 9:45pm / no cover All South American Music night! DJ Warp Kate Simko DJ Warp has been on the scene for years, playing IDM, ambient, experimental and just good music. Now he is in charge of booking the Chicago Cultural Center and helped set-up the Summer Dance series that showcased some great electronic music shows in Grant Park last summer. He has a good ear and great music collection- we're looking forward to hearing what he plays! As far as artists: He will be playing tracks from Brazil, Cuba, Columbia, Mexico, Peru, and Chile, ranging from traditional to electronia: Caetano Veloso, Domenico +2, Milton Banana, Airto Moriera, Sin Palabras, Sidestepper, Joe Cuba, Willie Bobo, Atom Heart, Catchaito Lopez, Milton Nascimento, Bossacucanova, Tom Ze and more... The music she will be playing will feature music from Chile, Argentina and Brazil, from the 1940's to present. As some of you know, she just returned from a couple weeks in Argentina. Her friends in Buenos Aires are excited that she has this gig and copied her 10GB of music for the night! She's sifted through it and selected the best cuts, from them and friends in Chile. Here are some examples: - Argentina: tango artists, Juana Molina, techno from the Zensible label, Fantasias Animadas and Gustavo Lamas (Buenos Aires) - Chile: Mambo Tour (lesser-known group featuring vocalist from Sr. Coconut), Los Jaivas remakes- (1960's protest music from Chile- redone in 2003 by Toby Freund, Pier Bucci and Argenis Brito into beautiful electronic songs), Sr. Coconut- live at Royal Festival Hall- great extended jazz versions of Kraftwerk cumbia remakes), Javiera Mena, Esqueleto, Atom Heart - Chileam protest music: Violetta Parra- 1960's Chilean icon (one of her songs was remixed by Ricardo Villalobos and the extended version was the last song played at MUTEK Chile 04), Victor Jara - protest music from the 60's and 70's- killed by the CIA-backed coup), etc. - Chilean electronic music from those who stayed and those who fled - Brazilian bossa nova - classic and modern --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
