>>>BLUE SCHOLARS:
In homage to hip-hop's empirical formula - one DJ & one MC, and duos such as
Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Gangstarr and Blackalicious, the Blue Scholars embody
the chemistry that made these groups so consistent not only on wax, but live
on stage as well. What results is the blend of poetic, raw vocal delivery
with melodic boom-bap and turntablism, painted with politics and
preservation. Residing where the hustle and the struggle coincide, Blue
Scholars craft the soundtrack for everyday folks with everyday problems
seeking everyday release. With one self-released LP and over a hundred shows
rocked in less than two years, the Blue Scholars have emerged as the latest
in a long line of torchbearers for Seattle and greater Pacific Northwest
hip-hop scene. The duo formed in early 2002 after ciphers and sessions in a
makeshift attic-bedroom-studio in Seattle's University District, where emcee
Geologic and DJ/producer Sabzi came from vastly different musical approaches
to collide. One a distinguished battle emcee and poet, the other a former
punk/ska drummer and jazz-trained pianist, the duo's backgrounds laid the
foundation for a versatile combination of beats and rhymes at once political
and personal. Since 2002, the Scholars have shared stages with De La Soul,
Lyrics Born, Spearhead, Del the Funky Homosapien, Immortal Technique,
Typical Cats, Pacifics, Slick Rick, Kool Keith, Eyedea & Abilities, Pedro
the Lion, Native Guns, and many other good folks.

Lost Subject review - Inpress (Melbourne, AUS)
Lost Subject is the chilled out debut of a Portland based producer
Deceptikon. Creating smooth jazzy downtempo beats, his music is evocative
and atmospheric, equally drawing upon hip hop and jazz elements for his
gorgeously produced carefully crafted grooves. Utilising numerous
techniques, yet regularly arriving at a similar funky location, Deceptikon
effortlessly creates the kind of highly composed beat orientated
instrumental hip hop pieces championed in recent times by Ninja Tune via the
likes of Sixtoo or Blockhead. Whilst not necessarily pushing the sonic
envelope, Deceptikon is peerless in his ability to get a groove on, though
he is at his best on cuts like Treeghost where he doesn't rely solely on the
beats, utilising acoustic guitar and synthesizer to create an intimate sense
of longing. Composed over the last few years, Lost Subject is a journey that
fits perfectly into the lounge room ? funky basslines, crackling trip hop
beats and lush gentle atmospheres that act as a relaxing tonic to all the
stressors of daily life.

>>>AYINDE HOWELL:
Ayinde (ahh-yin-day) Howell was born in a small town called Tacoma
Washington, bred on vegan food, classic soul and reggae music he currently
resides in Seattle (Brooklyn !! check the blog) where in the year 200 he
first touched a mic as a spoken word artist and instantly fell in love with
the stage. In 2004 after a few years of growth via Seattle?s lively open mic
scene and penning producing and performing in two one man ?hip hop theater?
pieces his metamorphosis was complete. Vivid story telling gave way to
intricate song writing and his debut CD was birthed. Ayinde employed what he
liked to call the ?Bob Marley Method? of good musicianship and creative
lyrics mixed with the tried and true formula of hard hitting hip hop beats
and punchy hooks and you get something only Seattle could produce American
Hero Vol.1 the My Life In LP. Offset rhythms and amazing vocal accompaniment
round out the listening experience as truly unique. Ayinde Howell owner of
what has been dubbed Seattle?s ?Hip Hop Vegan Caf? Hillside Quickie?s is
without a doubt amongst the company of a new breed of hip hop artist
emerging from the masses and returning to the music. American Hero Vol.1 the
My Life In LP was conceived by a mind that has scene and heard it all but is
heavily influenced by some of the greatest of my our time such innovators as
Mos Def, Sade, Nirvana, Nas, Jay-Z, Roberta Flack, Saul Williams, almost
everyone who performed @ Liveaid and many more in short this as Ayinde calls
it a PostModern-Jiggy- Conscious -hip hop experience.

>>>NORDIC SOUL:
The solo moniker of Decibel Festival brainchild Sean Horton (Db founder,
director and curator). Nordic Soul?s production embodies both the
soulful/rhythmic sounds of Detroit (Horton?s upbringing) with the chilly,
electronic textures/melodies of Northern Europe (Horton?s heritage). Nordic
Soul pushes the boundaries of electronic music through highly technical
production in an effort to fuse genres seamlessly into a format that defines
categorization. Nordic Soul?s productions range from hip hop to electro pop
to blitzkrieg techno, while visiting all points in-between. Since Nordic
Soul?s inception in 2003 he has opened multitude of touring artists
including Funkstroung, Luomo, Boom Bip, Richard Devine, Phonecia, Electric
Birds, Proem, Four Tet, Matthew Dear, Lusine, T. Raumschmiere and Derrick
May. Nordic Soul also received the runner up award Seattle?s infamous laptop
battle. Nordic Soul?s remix of Take?s ?The Start of our Ending? recently
came out on Buttermilk Records. The 12? has received international critical
acclaim. Horton?s other projects currently include Synth Club (live tech
house/electro pop featuring Reggie Watts on vox) and Loveslap (live house
collective featuring Kevin Sawka on drums). In 2005 Synth Club has played
live on KEXP and was one of 14 bands selected in the Strangers ?Big Shot? up
and coming band contest.
