IMPORTANT NEWS RE: DAVID KRISTIAN
All the rumours you may have heard about David Kristian calling it quits
are true, but before you e-mail us about upcoming releases and shows, take
the time to read the following open letter from David himself:
After having recorded more Electronica tracks I care to count, and with 6
volumes from the Music from the Mermaid Room series and two more David
Kristian albums on new labels in the pipeline, I've decided to shift my
musical focus elsewhere.
Some of you were already getting a bit wary of buying David Kristian CDs,
not knowing what to expect, and it's no secret that most of my releases
consist of archived material from days past (I like to take my time to
select what goes on an album and I haven't recorded any new Electronica
tracks in over a year), so I think it's best to retire David Kristian as a
"producer" and use that name only when I'm called upon for soundtrack
work.
I no longer plan on performing live as David Kristian either, except for
one or two launch parties.
But all this does not mean it's over. Far from it. Over the last few
months, I have been building up two of my alter-egos; that of Gentle
Bakemono and a little known lap steel player who calls himself Malamutant.
I'll keep all the Gentle Bakemono related material on this site (sorry
Scott!), and develop the Malamutant domain myself. Gentle Bakemono is big
music for big discos, and Malamutant is music for small cafes and live
venues, so I figure an intimate approach may be needed when doing the
online thing.
I have no immediate plans to release any of this material, seeing as I
only wish to put out Gentle Bakemono in vinyl and Malamutant is best
experienced live, but I have been offered deals already so I can never say
never...
In the coming months expect:
The Mariana Trench CD on Oral - real experimental drone music that should
make you feel like you've drowned and sunk to heaven (is there such a
thing?)
Ghost Storeys CD/DVD on C0C0S0L1DC1T1, which is more of a soundtrack than
an album, but it's still under the David Kristian name, so...
Rhythms for a Rainy Season CD on Apegenine Recordings - a 16 track final
David Kristian Electronica release that should appeal to those of you who
liked Sweet Bits
Many club and party appearances by Gentle Bakemono...
And of course, lots of new soundtrack work, which means there may be more
David Kristian soundtrack releases like the one Crème Organization put out
a few months ago, but that's up to the producers, not me.
Thanks to all of you who have been along for the ride, I really appreciate
it and hope you will enjoy what I have to offer you in the future.
