Oh, that's alright then! (But when you said "Red State", did you mean "redneck state"? I can't be sure!) No, I haven't seen Gummo - except for some clips - but heard alot of buzz about it when it was released. In a "Summarize Proust competition"-stylee: Boy; strange-shaped head; blows up a frog ...or a cat ...or something; Errr... dunno much else about it, really - except that it was supposed to be quite cool and upped the ante on the "strange realism" side of cinema for a while. Talking of which, do any of you happen to have any inside info on what Chris Morris is doing, these days? I loved his TV comedy work, but haven't seen the video he did for Warp yet. I understand it's quite dark and cynical (about the state of humanity these days). I ask, since I watched the new comedy "Look Around You" on BBC2, last night and although it was funny and good to see some of his old co-conspirators on there, it was "comfortable humour", as opposed to Morris' totally unsettling or subversive stuff. On a different note (an on-topic one, for a change!) I saw Isan on Sunday, for the first time. Quite nice, although the venue (The Spitz) was way too crowded and half the people were talking all the way through. Still, I'll be seeing them again at the Horse Hospital on the 17th. :-) Clive ============================================================ From: Def Con 1 <mybadelf@yahoo.com> Date: 2005/02/01 Tue AM 07:54:01 GMT To: clive-harris <clive-harris@ntlworld.com> Subject: Re: [idm] More cultural imperialism? Clive I was totally joking, you obviously haven't seen the movie Gummo. Don't worry you aren't missing anything, it's a film about very dumb white trash people. I don't take anything seriously on idm --- clive-harris <clive-harris@ntlworld.com> wrote:

Well-timed query. New show "Nathan Barley" on Channel 4 starts imminently. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4083169.stm

Which video would that be then, Clive?

I agree. Some nice ideas (like 'Synthesiser Patel' and Leonard Hatred's 'Psilence' spray, and 'What Music Will Sound Like in 2000', esp. 'The Rapping Song'), but short on Big Laffs. Generally too content to indulge in postmodern pastiching of the 70s and the presentational 'look and feel' of the pop science/magazine programmes of the day (Hey, lads. When you write these things, don't forget to er... pop in a few jokes). alan ---------------------- Alan Lockett, (Senior Language Co-ordinator, EFL), Language Centre, University of Bristol, 30-32 Tyndall's Park Road, Bristol BS8 1PY, UK Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk tel: +44 117 3310914 fax: +44 117 9741377 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, that was a pretty decent gig. B.Fleischman was really good as well - tho again, it seemed mostly preprogrammed except for some EQ tweaking and fiddling on his groovebox. Was good to see ISAN on top form. You're coming along for the Horse Hospital show? Excellent stuff! I'm really excited to see Bovaflux. ------ new musics: Anyone else got hold of the 'This is... Tung' album? Really amazing stuff for the indie-electronic and/or folky acoustic people on the list. At parts it sounds like The Postal Service in terms of sheer pop bliss with a big electronic beat (see track 4 'Beautiful And Light') and at others just beautiful acoustic songs with subtle wisps of electronic manipulation. thor --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Speaking of exploding frogs, the movie The Reflecting Skin is a must see. That's where Coil gets the sample "Have you been exploding Frogs again?", which on the Stolen & Contaminated CD --- clive-harris@ntlworld.com wrote:
