In case you really think you're the first person to dislike Autechre's recent output and spark a spirited debate on this pressing matter, I've put together a small guide for you (and other new listmembers). Posts to the IDM list about Autechre break down into 4 categories: 1) Their old stuff rules, their new stuff sucks. 2) Their old stuff is good, and the new stuff is okay. 3) Not a fan, but knows of an artist that Autechre should imitate. 4) Minor controversies aimed to steer some attention toward the poster. All of these threads devolve into agreeing to disagree a day or three later. Rinse and repeat. Hope this helps. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

A good trip through the archives might alleviate this rash of re-hash (e.g., CD vs. vinyl, etc. ad nauseum) - although I'm hard put to spot many 'old-timers' left on the list (another thread which has already been spun, I might add :-) jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

[ raising hand ] I'm still here... although I seldom post anything useful these days, since I'm feeling rather out of touch with what's happening. Still seem to be doing lots of catching up with yesterday's news in terms of music - 2004 was a stressful year (parental health issues, etc etc) which somehow sidetracked me from my obsessive slavery to music. Glad to say I'm returning to my old obsessive ways, though. It's just a gradual process to assimilate all that's new and pick up the pieces from where I left off. Me too! ;) Though I'm not sure if I'm an old-timer but I've been missing this list for 4-5 years or so and finally back on track and glad to read it through - lots of new music comments, that's what I like. I generally dislike sending "me, too" messages, but hey, since I haven't posted anything really constructive on the list for a long time, why stop? (It's been over a decade since my first post, but I can't recall how long I lurked before that (if that sound like gloating, it probably is). Reading through my own postings in the archives makes me blush rather heavily. :)

I'm still buying more records than I really should, since I more often than not have a pile of them I haven't had time to listen to yet. But I follow other genres besides those representative of this list (let's not start yet another thread whether IDM is a genre or not). Techno and electro, mostly. ObContent: I'm really looking forward to Bitstream's Homeland Economy 7 album on Modern Love, out tomorrow. I like all of the Conner brothers' output intensely, and judging by the clips on Boomkat, the new album won't disappoint. To me, the start of the Analord series was a bit anticlimactic, although obsessive like Irene, I will get them all, good or not. Currently, the one I like the most is #10. #1 and #2 were a bit disappointing, but all in all the three are a breath of semi-fresh air in the AFX department. -- nuutti-iivari meriläinen gordon at diversion dot org http colon slash slash www dot diversion dot org slash --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

AOL, sort of - I've been around under various names and addresses since about 99. Speaking of old, I picked up, at an extortionate price, a copy of Pioneers of the Hypnotic Groove the other day. My god it's good. I picked up that cd for 3 dollars when this record store was going out of business and by the end of the cd i wanted my cash back. The only good song on there is the Dj Mink song. The rest is just a bad reperasentation of early Warp stuff with all the "you are now in space" crap. I also got the Dj Spooky Vs. Scanner cd from that store for 3 bucks, that was definately worth it. It has the crazy Dj stuff of Dj Spooky and the minimalist ambient stuff of Scanner mixed together, its great. Oh, suit yourself. I'd have said that LFO, Tricky Disco, Sweet Exorcist and The Step were all stone cold classics. What would you have said was a better representation of early warp stuff?
