Funnily, she doesn't seem to realise that her music genre might not exist if IDM hadn't been there in the first place *(out of the country).* Unless that is (more likely) some poor polemic attempt in order to get her music heard. I thought IDM being labelled Intelligent Dance Music was a misnomer and that most in the community agreed it was a toxic way to view the art. As far as I'm concerned IDM is just that, and doesn't translate to anything else. To me IDM is basically jazz electronica, as in, people who were often classically trained and/or understood music theory and made electronica. The « jazz » statement seems like the « electronic music » compulsory figure. I mean any Roland-based dumb track always claimed some doubtful jazz legacy. I mean, IDM is so amorphous a term that many of my favorite IDM artists could also be labelled other genres as well. Amon Tobin could be trip hop Squarepusher could be break beat Loscil could be ambient I've actually moved on from IDM to New Cumbia with the likes of Reple, Uruba Marinka, El Peche and Meraki, all from the Sonido Tropico label. The tech wizardry in IDM was an amazing thing to behold, but I find myself drawn more and more to south American bears with a more melodic theme. I agree with you on this : the day when i realised that mostly only melodic material (rather than cascading stutter effects) was eventually memorable to me was quite disruptive. Like everyone here i guess, i remain a little obsessed with unheard tones, although all these years listening to synthetic timbres allowed listening to acoustic music to be an unexpected experience as well (sometimes).
