Hi, folks...
Just wanted to send out a reminder about the two shows I'm involved with in
Toronto this coming weekend:
On Friday, November 5th, I'm throwing a fundraising party for CIUT 89.5 FM
at The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen St. W.), with live performances by
SOLVENT (with BLACK TURTLENECK), VITAMINSFORYOU, STOP DIE RESUSCITATE,
BLEEP & NYBBL. Check out the cover story on Solvent from this week's issue
of Eye magazine:

On Sunday, November 7th, Stained Productions (my wife Sheryl & I) are
kicking off A MONTH OF SUNDAYS 2, a four-week series of live electronic &
experimental music at Tequila Lounge (794 Bathurst St.), with sets by
MNEMOSYNE, WINTER EQUINOX & PRHIZZM. Here's an interview with Mnemosyne
from Spill Magazine:
http://www.spillmagazine.com/mnemosyne.htm
Full information on both events appears below. Please keep in mind that
both shows start early (on Friday in order to have a jam-packed night with
lots of music, and on Sunday so we can end early & you can get home at a
decent hour), so please don't be fashionably late. Hope to see you at the
shows!
cheers,
Greg

SOLVENT with BLACK TURTLENECK
Solvent is Jason Amm, a robot music composer, analog synthesizer fetishist,
and co-founder of the reknowned Suction Records label. Since 1997. he has
been releasing his unique brand of synthesizer-pop music: too elegant and
sincere for the electroclash set, too complex and contemporary to sound
like it was recorded in 1981, and too steeped in the time-honoured
traditions of melody, songwriting and hands-on synthesis to be lost in the
overcrowded world of IDM. Today, Solvent is widely regarded in the
underground electronica community as being at the forefront of
electro-pop's return to form. His latest releases are his fourth
full-length album, "Apples and Synthesizers", on Ghostly International, and
a collaborative 12" EP with Suction Records co-founder Lowfish on Holland's
Vynalogica label.
A portion of Solvent's set will feature the exclusive live debut of Black
Turtleneck, a new duo featuring Jason Amm and vocalist Thomas Sinclair.
They take Solvent's patented melodic electro sound one step closer to the
classic synth-pop stylings of Soft Cell, The Human League and Depeche Mode:
modern, complex synthesizer pop songs for the introspective black
turtleneck set.

VITAMINSFORYOU
Originally from Winnipeg, and now based in Toronto after some time in
Montreal, Bryce Kushnier a.k.a. vitaminsforyou has been exploring the rich
relationship that exists between narration, meta-narration and
microstructure in music since 1998. Grazing the fine line between logic and
emotion, allowing the microscopic to give way to a provocative, compelling
and gratifying melody, vitaminsforyou has been developing sound and music
for theatre, dance, film, video, animation and prose across Canada, working
with artists in a variety of genres from electro-acoustic sound designers
to some of Canada's darling pop practitioners. Past live performances have
included appearances Montreal's MUTEK & Pop Montreal festivals; Toronto's
Canadian Electronic Ensembles Festival; Saskatoon's Digidome Festival of
contemporary sound, music, and digital video; and Winnipeg's Send and
Receive Festival. The debut vitaminsforyou album, "I'm Sorry For Ever And
For Always", was released last year on Montreal's Intr_version label, and
Kushnier is currently working on material for a 2005 release.

STOP DIE RESUSCITATE
Stop Die Resuscitate is an accident which almost did not happen. Lucas
Costello (aka coolhandLuke) met Lyle Crilly (aka Surge Gainsboard) while
recording a demo CD, Surge liked Luke's voice, and they decided to
collaborate. Luke met Ndidi Onukwulu (aka Dukes Onukes) at a fashion show
they were in and asked her to sing on a couple of tracks. Soon they were
writing songs together. One year later, they completed their debut album
hell.o, a collection of sounds (electro, breaks, industrial, hip-hop...)
and individuals which reflect the diverse soundscape of their adoptive
city, Toronto. With the recent addition of drummer Josh Vantussel, SDR's
live shows have been kicked up to a whole new level, and are an experience
not to be missed.

BLEEP
Electronic-pop trio Bleep blend dreamy pop melodies with electronic
experimentation creating beautifully complex rhythms and sonic structures,
all tied together by soft melodic vocals. Musicians at heart, founding duo
Robyn Sellman & Igor Olejar and recent addition Mark Zarich are proficient
in many instruments, but choose the electronic music medium for its power,
flexibility and possibility of experimentation. Even though infectious
beats and strong memorable melodies are the foundation of Bleep's sound,
exploring new musical styles is what they do best. Their debut album "IMM
0008" (TeknoStan) was released in 2003, and their "Datenbergbau" EP will be
released later this year.

NYBBL
Combining sweet melodies, pulsating rhythms, field samples, and textures
culled from the world around us, nybbl interjects sweat and emotion into
the sterile landscape of digital music. Essentially a guitarist who was
courted by electronic music over the course of many years, nybbl attempts
to look past the accepted forms and genres of electronic music to a
boundaryless expression of heart and sound. nybbl's debut EP "Facts Don't
Stain the Furniture" was released earlier this year on the Hippocamp MP3
label, and he has signed to Toronto's Noise Factory label for an upcoming
release.

MNEMOSYNE
November 7th, 11 PM
Mnemosyne features Aidan Baker on guitars/vocals, Richard Baker on
drums/percussion, & Heather K. (replacing original member Rodin Columb) on
bass/electronics. Collaborators in various other projects, they finally
formed their own band in late 2002 to explore, within the context of a
'power trio,' fragmentary post/space-rock ranging sonically from washes of
ambient sound to walls of fractured dissonance. Mnemosyne released their
first recording, an EP entitled "Spiritsized" on Arcolepsy Records in 2003.
Their first full-length record, "The Air Grows Small Fingers" was released
in June 2004 on Toronto's Piehead Records.

WINTER EQUINOX
November 7th, 10 PM
Winter Equinox is a mostly instrumental quartet of musicians taking
influences from artists such as Tortoise, Do Make Say Think, Download,
Mogwai, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and others. The group consists of
Lauren Yakiwchuk & Robyn Yakiwchuk from Dundas, Ontario, and Dan Roberts &
Brad Weber from Waterloo, Ontario. The skills and talents that these four
members possess comprise the elements that make Winter Equinox a unique and
alluring listening experience. The group utilizes a wide array of
instruments such as keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, percussion, flute,
clarinet, and programmed rhythms to define their sound.

PRHIZZM
November 7th, 9 PM
Prhizzm is electronic music producer Brendan Dellandrea. He is a trained
keyboardist and a patient programmer. He has been recording music since
2001. He has contributed to compilation releases on the Audiobulb and
c0c0s0l1dc1t1 labels. His debut EP will be released on Scotland's Benbecula
Records in early 2005. He uses a combination of digital wavetable, digital
analog modelling, and true solid-state analog synthesis. He does his
programming on a PC. He enjoys what he does very much.
