The November issue of Wired includes a CD with 16 tracks licensed under the Creative Commons Sampling licences. See http://creativecommons.org/wired if you like. This message is more about the music than the concept. Track 13, "Wataridori 2" by Cornelius is sublime. Extremely melodic and with a lot of depth, it's the best track I've heard in several months. At 7:09, it's also the longest on the CD. The rhythms are uptempo (about 140 bpm) with enough progression and interaction between elements to remain interesting throughout. It appears that Cornelius (aka Keigo Oyamada) has several releases on Matador, although Matador's web site is currently down so I can't check these out (hmmm... perhaps there are thousands of Wired subscribers hammering Matador's web site at this very moment... or not). Cornelius' web site (http://cornelius-sound.com) has sound clips, but they are in Real Audio. No thanks. How is the rest of his material? BTW, the Wired CD has several good tracks (though not exactly IDM) from Dan Nakamura (aka Dr. Octagon), Thievery Corp (if you're into that shiz), DJ Dolores, and Matmos. As a side note, "DJ Dolores" would have been my mom's stage name, if my mom was a brazillian DJ and remix artist who happened to be proficient with a sampler. The CD also has some shwag, but the good tracks justify the cost of this year's Wired subscription (one dozen bones), especially when you consider it was delivered to my doorstep free of charge. phase --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The Corneluis Stuff is good. glad the wire is using creative commons in light of that illegal sampling law that was passed over whatever. - a On Oct 23, 2004, at 12:05 AM, phase@booyaka.com wrote:
