I went to a Sonic Youth show recently, and Wolf Eyes opened for them. They're industrial/dark ambient. I was trying to get into their music, but it wasn't doing anything for me. At one point I started to feel terrible, like I needed to throw up and my head was spinning. I felt so bad I had to sit down, and the only thing I can attribute it to is the music. As soon as the song was over I felt better. This thread just reminded me of it...the end :) ak In a message dated 10/3/2004 12:51:14 PM Pacific Standard Time, chthonic@chthonicstreams.com writes: Subject: Re: [idm] records too creepy to fall asleep with ------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's great. Wolf eyes did the same thing to me at the 2003 demf/movement festival. Since my friends were rocking out over by the speakers I thought it was just me. Maybe its intentional that they try to create nausea in the listener. That still doesn't explain my friends rocking out though. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sounds like Ultra low frequency sound waves, they'll shake your insides up so bad your liver and insides explode, if exposed to them for long enough and loud enough. Throbbing Gristle were into them, I think. So was Tesla, and suppossedly that HARPP project up in the boonies of Alaska is related to those experiments. I have this "Close to Absolute Zero" comp cd that the last track you can't really hear, but when you look at the meters on the mixer, it's peaking like crazy! Speaking of which, anyone heard any idm with binaural beats, which are suppossed to induce alpha or theta brain waves? --- Blake Mikesell <djfuckstick@tmail.com> wrote:

I don't doubt the ability of sound to cause varying reactions (even I've experimented with low frequency cycles in attempt to put myself to sleep), but its practical application STILL hasn't been fully achieved, even in the military sector. --- http://www.edgey.net http://www.thoughtbludgeon.com 'intellect in rational movement tries to kill emotion, in doing so, only kills itself.' Actually, I'm a former US Marine Computer Operator with a NATO Secret clearance that worked in a tactical weapons and radar tracking facility. Not that that has any bearing on the matter, it's a simple matter of physics, amplitude and frequency, and beyond that, the act of "closing a window" won't stop a low cycle hum that has enough power and proper alignment to disturb the "frequency" of a human body. I'm sure we can expect a "mythbusters" episode on this one soon, heh. There are plenty of articles on the internet on experimenting with low frequency hums, and their intentions... even some quick tricks you can do with programs as simple as the original wavelab, keep a calculator handy, heh (although some don't work on consumer grade speaker systems as theyre designed to block out "malignant" low frequencies). --- http://www.edgey.net http://www.thoughtbludgeon.com 'intellect in rational movement tries to kill emotion, in doing so, only kills itself.' The military has found plenty of practical applications for sound. Its called "psychotronic warfare" and its been used pretty extensively. Gulf War I is a good example, the assault on the Davidian Compound in Waco is another. Agreed. That bit wasn't the most plausible suggestion in the article.

I've seen/heard a sonic cannon in action. It was quite impressive, and unsettling in the same way as an earthquake: disortienting reality, visually as well as audibly. It entirely may be shaking of the eyes that causes visual distortions, though it seems some other sense else is being affected as well: I'm waiting for the next earthquake to do further bioassays. seek np: phon.o - partition b --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
