ENViRON @ LOOP : 23 meyers place melbourne australia SUNDAY OCTOBER 3rd : 7PM TIL LATE : $5 The evolution of the Environ concept continues on October 3rd with the fifth monthly event at LOOP featuring a far more percussive and instrumentalist group of contestants in the music/AV performance games known as 'Talula'. So far the music movements of Dub, Greek, Folk, Electronic and Jazz have been represented in the arena. Now it's time for some harder edge music scenes to make contact. Fulfilling both Talula 'Selector' roles on the night are Sydney Conservatorium come Jazz-DnB percussionist Alistair Wallis, and Joe Talia, who's the drummer in 'City City City' and the 'Adam Simmons Toy band' to name two of his projects... That's not to say they're sticking to strict percussion however. Al's using a Midi Mallet Kat (a Xylophone Midi Controller Instrument) to trigger samples and loops, alongside a Vibraphone, and Joe's bringin out his laptop to share some of his private computer creations, alongside some banging on Cymbals etc. Taking things further... Psycho-Rocker Double Bass Player Joey Phantom will add some serious energy to the sometimes quite sublime Environ headspace, bringing the drive that propels him in his bands 'The Fireballs' and 'The Sinshifters' that he describes as being from the metal end of the Psycho-billy scene. On the other end of the spectrum is emerging Didgeridoo artist Benjamin Langmead, relying totally on air and circular breathing, He's played with reggae, jazz, rock, folk, electronic and world acts... so the 'Talula' experience should only add to that spectrum. On Visual Duties are VJ Yasmin Sabuncu and optical wizard Paul Rodgers. Yasmin's work is edgy and raw with a bent sense of humour and reflects her passion for all things creative. She has worked on music clips, feature film sets, commercials and theatre events across various roles. Paul's exceptional at building contraptionist style visual machines that emit exotic improvised light compositions. Paul will also be contributing Audio to the Didge versus Pitch percussion set, when he brings out his 'fire organ'. Mixing these two sets will be SBS Melbourne Sound Engineer and electronic music producer David Ashton, and Environ regular treatments enthusiast Brendan Palmer. Due to their ear opening set at the last event, Antediluvian Rocking Horse have been invited back to warm up the room once again. Their multi-layer non-headphone DJ style is incredible and unique... Bulgarian import DJ FSB is a last minute entry to the lineup, prepare to be mind boggled... Perception altering slides once again are presented by John Aslanidis. ____ Talula #9 (9.00pm) Alistair Wallis (pitch percussion, loops) The Ramblers, Jackie Orszaczky & the grandmasters Benjamin Langmead (didgeridoo) Sustainable Living, Rainbow Serpent Festival Paul Rodgers (optics, fire organ) Loophole cinema UK, Swinburne University Brendan Palmer (analog vs digital mix) Zonar, Alchemy Radio, Uber_Lingua ____ Talula #10 (10.30pm) Joe Talia (electronics & percussion) City City City, Adam Simmons Toy Band Joe Phantom (amplified double bass) Sinshifters, Fireballs, Strikes, Speed Demon Yasmin Sabuncu (video manipulations) MRC Zoom Award, SBS Cornerfold David Ashton (mix & treatments) SBS Radio, International Jewel Thieves _____ Alongside: Antediluvian Rocking Horse (DJs), DJ FSB (Bulgaria), John Aslanidis (projection), Talula archive More info and bios at http://www.environline.net LOOP : 23 Meyers Place Melbourne http://www.looponline.com.au Demos of all sorts can be sent to Environ PO Box 2613 Fitzroy 3065 AUSTRALIA Email info@environline.net to subscribe or unsubscribe --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
