I been a bit quiet on here of late. Heres my spammy august newsletter, however to keep it from being too self promotional, I would highly reccomend a show in London tomorrow eve at Public Life (free as well!!) with OMMM and DJ SHABUSHABU. I saw DJ SHABUSHABU about two weeks ago up in GLasgow, and damn, the kid is amazing - hard to categorize, idm, breaks, dub, hip hop, i dunno - he's like an MC, but sampling and looping his own voice over shit, just basically rocked the place. CHeck it. OK, on wit da spam:: [Highpoint Lowlife August Newsletter] LIVE ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks to everyone who came down for the London Placard festival last month, and who helped make it such a great day! The guardian wrote a nice article about it accessible at http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1264743,00.html and there is an upcoming On Location article in The Wire's September issue. Next live performances will be an informal low-key label showcase at the Foundry in London on the 15th of September, featuring Fisk Industries, Recon and a special guest to be announced. Our superstar N.LN will be over at the end of September also, playing in his indie-rock shoegaze band, Film School, doing a number of London shows including a support slot for 4AD's Television On The Radio, and promoting his nLannon record, just released on Badman records. For more details, check Nyles' site at: http://www.nlnmusic.com/ RELEASES ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Freebies!! Two new digital singles available from the Highpoint Lowlife website's download section at: http://highpointlowlife.com/downloads.shtml First up is a two track teaser from an upcoming album by The Village Orchestra (one third of The Marcia Blaine School For Girls). One of the tracks, "Love Theme From 'Two Man Rumble'" was composed for use in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, for the mighty Perhilion Theatre Company's production of 'Two Man Rumble (details at http://www.artsworks.net/festival/show.php?t=showPress&id=237&PHPSESSID=2caefe55e43d52d7bf5c02f39d806dbe) The second single is by another stellar artist, Bovaflux, who we are working with for an album, penned for release early in 2005 - two tracks of sublime and crunchy electronica. enjoy! BITS: AND BOBS ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Our latest release, Marshall Watons' "The Time Was Later Than Expected" has been getting some great airplay and nice reviews: "Highpoint Lowlife would appear to be on something of a roll at the moment and with this, the ninth release, they come up trumps again in the field of electronica yet again. Fresh, melodic, intricately woven textures of sound along with subtle beats and glitches. At times recalling the gentle beauty of early Ulrich Schnauss, but crossed with deep chord laden style of Jan Jelinek. It has a free flowing style that is satisfying indeed. recommended." Smallfish Records, London "Floating through the soft plasma of outer space I look around to see suspended pocket watches oscillate between acceleration and deceleration. Everything falls quietly back into the static state that I first found it in. Marshall Watsons The Time Was Later Than He Expected is over. I feel warm but detached at the same time. Watsons release has a very dual nature thats often hard to achieve in electronic music. While some in experimental electronic music successfully complete emotional melodies and tones, others put on technical displays of percussive landscape. Watson manages to get the two to coexist in harmony on most of the tracks during this Highpoint Lowlife label release." Modsquare.com "Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this album from start to end, and certainly was not disappointed with what I expected to be a great and well produced album. Its artists like Marshall Watson that keep the expression of electronic music alive and with this classic, beautifully creative album I can say the future looks bright. Admittedly, this is not going to be immediately appealing to everyone, but the potential for Marshall to have success on a larger scale is certainly there, as is the remarkable talent. .the time was later than he expected. gets a well deserved 9/10." Petrol Music Work continues on a number of other projects - The Rashamon (sorry, we know its taking a while!!) single and digital remix project are still underway, as is the Marcia Blaine School For Girls curated compilation of scottish electronica. Stay tuned! 8bitrecs.com - There is a new front end to the site, and you can browse artists for info, but the actual downloads aren't working yet (lots of content there, so its taking a while), but that should be online this week...
