The other shoe has finally dropped. A mailing list that started out as a forum
to discuss the music coming out on Warp, has had a thread called
'Warp Fell Off'. It's as ironic as an Alaniss Morissete song.
I never was someone who liked everything that came out on Warp. That's true
of every record label I like, with the possible exception of Merck. I actually
don't have everything Merck has put out, but I do like everything I have.
But Warp, despite its ups and downs, and some fairly cold, venal decisions
you hear mutters about, tries a lot more than most labels, and
succeeds more than most labels at putting out good original music. They also
have done something brilliant in staying independent and in business.
Something very FEW electronic labels who started in the late 80s can say.
Since I deleted without reading 99% of that thread I won't comment on what
anyone said there, except to say any thread with that many responses was
probably depressingly and generically like any number of other
dead-horse-beating threads on internet mailing lists.
I love my 'D' key in Pine.
