Hi guys. Andrew, your email got me interested in Cylob. He's supposed to be playing in Glasgow on July 3rd. 13th Note is a good venue. However was it not effected by the fire in the nightclub upstairs? That whole city block is cordoned off just now. Is there a change of venue planed. Id like to check Cylob out. Also, anyone know where Cylob's free MP3 downloads have gone? I followed few dead links to nowhere! In addition to my previous post, I wanted to point out that myself and some friends brought the Rephlex tour to Seattle a couple of years back with Cylob, Bogdan et al. We lost a good deal of money on that one. Tho Cylob was here a couple of years ago, Seattle has yet to surface on the proverbial map. What gives is that Chop Suey LOOSES big time on darn near *every* IDM related show. Steven Severin does what he can when he can, but the truth of the matter is that people rarely come out for these types of shows. When people do come, the 25 of us or so, it is just not enough to cover the guarantees many of the acts ask for. And Chop Suey is a business after all. i'm pretty sure you could make quite a bit of money on a show headlined by Cylob. Why is it the current trend to slag off idm shows and say people won't come out to see them? that's total bullshit. it's all based on how it's promoted. if you promote a show like it's going to be a bunch of dorky boys bobbing their heads, then who the fuck cares. but if you book a show like it's a dance party than people of both sexes will come out to see the music and dance. on the rephlex tour in portland cylob and co. rocked a sold out show. i don't think it's the people who won't come, it's morons who can't promote a show to save their lives. c. -- ********* Toast and Jam Recordings www.tandjrec.com ********* --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Is Saturday the only available night for this show? I have a weekly Monday laptop night that would be an excellent venue to host Cylob at. Weekend in general are REALLY tough in Seattle because nearly every decent venue hosts either Hop Hip or House. IDM and Techno typically get pushed to weekdays, which (in my humble opinion) has a lot to do with why the attendance/awareness is week. You always get a larger audience on weekends due to the fact that many people don't care about the music as much as just going out and getting stupid. It's a damn shame people continue to get stupid to bad music, but that's just the way it is. no the problem is support. in portland there's a lot of good record shops and a venue dedicated to electronic music. I mean I print up 2500 full color fliers with a good design on them, distribute them over 4 cities, get cds to radio stations, get promos to local stores, and still get like 40 kids for an idm show. Aside from that I've built 2 mailing lists for music shows, have over 175 people between the two of them getting my e-mails, post every show to the planet-mu, no future, and WATMM shows, I mean fuck some times I burn cds and give them to kids so they'll come out. meanwhile an indie-rock band can send one cd to a radio station, has access to a network of distrubtors that reach about 20 times what the average idm distro reaches, and the promoter puts up maybe 10 posters and there's like 200 kids there. idm has a LONG way to go till it reaches the level indie-rock has. at the very least though, it seems like people have their act more together now in the u.s. (I mean u.s. idm acts are touring all the time now). it's not how u pitch it, it's people knowing what's there. - A On Monday, June 07, 2004, at 03:56PM, <hime@charter.net> wrote:
