In this podcast, instrument designer Peter Blasser <https://rwm.macba.cat/en/sonia/sonia-331-peter-blasser>introduces us to his environmental instruments and meditates on his view on electronics and synthesizers as a form of creativity. Wood, sunlight, wind, touch and craft are invoked in the process. Link: https://rwm.macba.cat/en/sonia/sonia-331-peter-blasser Peter Blasser is a designer of electronic instruments and one of a kind in the world of synthesizer builders. His circuit designs catalyse philosophical concepts into whimsical analog synthesizers that have been evolving since he started his company, Ciat-Lonbarde, in Baltimore more than 15 years ago. Constantly rehashing his old designs, the instruments one can find in his store, now settled in Berlin, trace back to several others he has made in the past which are often idiosyncratically documented and generously shared in the form of downloadable paper circuits. Signature unmarked wooden instruments that go along Peter’s outlook on life, inviting users to an intuitive and playful approach we enjoyed throughout our conversation. More akin to craft than industry, Blasser has used materials such as wood, paper, or fabric as a substrate for circuits, exploring possibilities for more sustainable electronics and re-imagining its role in a distant future.
