Helios is Merck's latest signing and his debut Unomia further cements
Merck as one of the best ambient labels out there. Ephemeral melodies
move at dub speeds while a peculiar library of taps, clicks, and kicks
push the album along at a dream like pace. Content to sit on simple
refrains, Velius blossoms out along a minimal path pushing slight
orchestrations in at the right moments to keep this down-tempo opener
precariously balanced between inert musings and playfulness. Delicacy
is a staple with Helios, long sustained chords heavily reference
releases from Fax and EM:T and his percussion is eternally crumbling
into atmospheric melodies.
