Does anyone have any idea as to what happened to the Skylab archives? I've emailed webmaster@skylab.org a couple times, but never got any reply. It'd be really nice to see these again someday, as they really are a valuable resource, a great source of information, and quite often provide a good laugh (like going back and looking at the days when AFX used to post here [if it was indeed AFX]). Does Hyperreal not have room to host these? -Alan Quoting StaticBeats <shimone@gmail.com>:

Here's a proof of concept that I developed for the idm-making lists. The idm list is much, much larger so I'm not sure how performance would be. The current page has a parser that takes the mailbox files and converts them into a sql database. http://lists.resynthesize.com/ The original plan was to start archiving a variety of music related lists, but I lost interest/time :) Brandon

If you are going to revive the idm archive I have a wish that it has a search functionality. I can't tell you how many times I have asked "What do you think of the new album by ________?" Knowing full well that it must have come up a dozen times when I wasn't looking. Thanks! :-) wnf np: o9: Red & White tracks are incredible! Looks good -- I like the obfuscated email addresses! (I'm sure the bulk of my spam originated from harvesting of the skylab.org archives... Yep, the evil spammers did nail us. There's actually a web page telling people how to spam, and they even provide a number of mail archives to harvest email addresses from. And right in there is the former IDM archive. An excerpt, and the link follow. "MAILING LISTS What makes a Successful Mailing? Start with a good mailing list. Then consider the offer. Write well. Don't use a bag of tricks. Your mailing list must be sent to people who will open what you send and you must have a good offer, presented in a professional manner. The perspective customer will form an opinion of your mail order company or MLM offer by what they receive. Follow this important rule : Stress what your offer will do for your reader. Think like this: \"What is this going to do for me?\" " from: http://www.researchetc.com/reports/mailinglist/50.htm If that's not incidious enough for ya, who else but the Japanese would do "research" on mining mailing list archives?
