do you know if susie ibarra is playing percussion on ALL the dates or just some of them? has she been playing the shows outside of the new york area? I'm not sure if I want to go see s&s live in sf on thursday, but if ibarra is going to be there, I'm not missing it. I'm a huge ibarra fan, and the two times I've seen her, once with her quartet (with trevor dunn on bass) and once solo, I was totally blown away and would love to catch her live again.. -kiya --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I caught the show here in Seattle on Tuesday night. Not sure who the drummer was, but she was incredibly talented. Whether it's Susie or not, you must check it out. She played with drum sticks, mallets, brushes, and basically had a style that really fit with Scott's music. She would have done well on the Prefuse73 tour, not that I have anything against that Tortoise drummer. The show was disappointingly short: under an hour. And not everyone in the audience was into the sublime sound. They did have a few technical difficulties at the start (the singer's monitors weren't working like they needed), but the show did have it's highlights, and the drummer certainly was one of them. Yes, it was Susie. One of my fave drummers/percussionists in the downtown NYC (hell, world) jazz/free/improv scene. She's ace!! IF you don't know her, she has plenty of excellent music out. Google her website for more... I've seen her live in trio, duo, solo, and full band sessions, and she's always spot on. I don't know how Herren (or the band) knows her, but she was a welcome addition.

That's Susie! She really uses her kit. See her solo, or in a free/ improv session, and she'll have a lot more than just sticks, mallets, and brushes! Yeah, Mac (John McEntire) is great too, though not the same as Susie.

Sadly, not everyone in Toronto was either, but they did play for longer than an hour if I recall, with an encore. Not well attended, but being a fan of the new Savath LP and especially Juana, I was quite stoked. -P NP: Buscemi - "Our Girl In Havana" OD: Tara Fuki - "Kapka" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
