John Peel just played a track from the Rephlex Grime compilation, which sounded moderately interesting. A few questions: Is the comp out yet, or when is it due? What does the rest of it sound like? And in a more abstract vein, are Rephlex actually at the heart of an urban yoof phenomenon (as their website rather implies) or are they releasing (good and interesting) records that are derived from but don't actually affect the 'sounds on the street'? Thanks David ps sorry if this was the flavour of the month last month. I've only just returned to the list: I tried to RTFArchives, but they seem to have vanished. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Grime is pretty dead in London at this point. Even the 2-step people aren't into it anymore. Now that Rephlex is jockin it, there will probably be some interest again, but I'm sure even that will be short-lived. -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ... But are Rephlex doing the straightforward variant (dead or not)? I'd assumed they'd be releasing something mad but grime derived, in the same way that most of their 'acid' releases would sound out of place on a label like Flying Rhino.[1] So whether a Rephlex Grime comp is any good would be more or less independent of the general state of the stuff. I've heard good stuff from some of the people who seem to be involved, but it didn't sound like the stuff that would be 'in' with a mainstream London crowd at any point. David [1] or if I'm misinformed, whoever does release acid techno these days. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The album isn't out yet but from the limited stuff that I've heard on BBC it sounds pretty mainstream. The tracks from Markone and Plastic Man are getting alot of airtime on the various garage shows on 1Xtra. Femme Fatale had Markone in for an interview and they were talking about the upcoming Rephlex compilation. To quote her from the show.. "So this compilation is going to be released on Rephlex Records. What label is that then ?" Talk about being clueless. -Marc

.:hello:. spring is sprung...the grass is riz.. I wonder where dat fiddler is... as a matter of fact he's here: http://www.octavcat.com/e-flyer_front.jpg along with the rest of the band at the launch of the spankingly good BiggerABit EP by our mates Octavcat. We'll be playing quite late, but our advice is to get there around half eight, whilst it's still free, enjoy a beer and see the cats do what they do (it really is marvellously good), and then check our set before wandering home. In case you can't read the flyer, it's at the Dust Bar, 27 Clerkenwell Road, London. it starts at 8, goes on till late and is free before 9 (and pretty cheap thereafter). Live sets by Digitonal, Octavcat, LJ Kruzer and Dj support by Tom Central. Voici La France! Whilst we're on the subject of Mr Kruzer, Andy is off to the beautiful Breton city of Nantes this Saturday with the aforementioned electrosmith and Uncharted Audio grand fromage, Kone-R. Full details can be found here: http://www.lelieuunique.com/bar_unique/bar.html. Doin' Time Whilst Andy is discussing Satre and Debussy between brandies with the local Breton aesthetes, our labelmates from Seed Records will be taking their rightful place at Her Majesty's Pleasure (that's at rather than for, although you can never tell with those boys - they're very well connected), as they throw a big rave at Pentonville Prison. Only Seed would get away with something like this. It will be noisy, it will be banging, it will be conducted by Ardisson, Cursorminer, [snyzch], KCP and Seed DJs. It's only a fiver. Don't drop the soap... http://www.seedrecords.co.uk/prison.htm USA! USA! USA! cheers to those who supported us during our whistlestop tour of the US...well...new york and san francisco anyway. We were made very welcome and thouroughly enjoyed it. Personal thanks go out to Kim @ the oxygen bar, Dagny and df tram, Kevin and Jonathan, Lars for ensuring that i never eat chilli again, Lisa @ enabler, RecordCamp BO!!!!!, Matty Peters, Corey and Karen, Big John and Little John, Jane for the wonderful apartment, company and shopping advice, Jetblue airways, and all who supported us, looked after us and got us drunk . If anyone knows any New Yorkers Andy can marry, we'll be looking at playing there a lot more in the future ;o) We did manage to record the San Francisco set and we'll be making it available to listen to on our new radio player (see below). New Website Our website has been overhauled and is now fully Mac Compatible. Thanks to those who pointed out the problems. Quite embarassing really and glad it's sorted now. We also have a rather nifty new radio feature powered by the very cool radio.blog which you can use to hear some live, forthcoming and remix tracks. At the moment there's a rare live recording of Come and Play from the Selector radio session we did aeons ago, as well as forthcoming track Emberkreiss and an exclusive Multiplex remix. More material will be up soon for your listening pleasure. You'll find it all at http://www.digitonal.com as always. Cancellation Regrettably, due to circumstances way outside our control, we have had to cancel our debut Belgian date which was due to take place next week in Gent. We're ever so sorry about this - we were very much looking forward to it and we hope to re-arrange a date with the very sound Democrazy guys as soon as we can. the future expect an update soon on a load of activity, including some summer festival dates, the Seed Records EP release date, some remix news and more self-serving guff. andyx .:digitonal - biting styles and sticking a violin over the top since '99:. http://www.digitonal.com ***this mailing list is put out by digitonal...it's not for commercial use...we keep all personal details private...we're good like that...mail us at mailing@digitonal.com if you don't want to know*** --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
