i work at a cd store named cd trader on lower queen anne, 532 queen anne blvd., and we have a decent selection of used idm/ambient as well as many other genres, also sonic boom (ballard and fremont) and easy street (QA and west seattle) have excellent electronic selections in cd/vinyl as well, however i am still a huge fan of zion's gate and buy most of my vinyl in town there. hope this helps. later, Glenn/Nth G. Neither shop's selection of ambient/idm/etc can fairly be termed "excellent", imo. They've some stuff, but there is no shop in Seattle that's "excellent" for such music. "Decent", yes; "excellent", no. Zion's Gate do better than any other dance music shop, particularly re: vinyl. Wall of Sound have about the best selection of 'idm' and there's a knowledgeable person working at the shop. seek np: Tube Jerk remixes --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The new Kid Spatula, 'Meast', on Planet Mu, is two discs of older material, recorded between '94 and '98. This stuff is the best from Mike Paradinas in many years and it's his best material since Tango N'Vectif/Bluff Limbo, imo. For this week: o9 - 'Church of the Ghetto PC' (Schematic) From Schematic's site, this bit sums it up quite well: http://schematic.net/newsF.htm "Church of the Ghetto P.C. is an aural experience of jaw-dropping agog, like reading a new language, a kind of graffiti action-script dedicated to all the industrial back-alley disjecta of our Bill Gates-induced modernity. Sharing slang with the Schematic crew, o9 can still talk minimal with the Raster-Noton label, noise-therapy with Mego, and knows the uprock narratives of Warp's great masters. o9's voice has the whole idiomatic spectrum intact and yet still the gospel truth is that o9 has a vocabulary all his own. Nothing can prepare you for his application of shamanistic sound, those calked beats and rhythm clusters, that catechistic technical polish that brings beaming luster to screen-frozen darkness. Church of the Ghetto P.C. is a stunning and convulsive ripple of deep-membrane funk and syntactical synth notes. It's not old school, it's old testament, not high-tech, but high priest. It's as important as the fucking Bible. Cracking the egg code on total beat typography, o9 has written the first hard-driven masterpiece of this new dead-end, face-to-the-terminal century." -- Lee Henderson Don't let the "Ghetto" fool ya: there's no rapping, there're no vocals, and it's ~not~ hiphop. seek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Listening to "Seven Milliseconds" as we speak. From what I understand reading various reviews, the album appears to be less melodic and more abrasive than this rather floaty lovely track - am I wrong in this perception? my thoughts exactly, "seven milliseconds" in my opinion is a real wonder, a work of a master in all respects. Its a track that isnt only based on logic, chaos, mindless twisting of technology, and bit destruction..its much easier to destroy then to really create if you know what i mean, and blah ,blah, blah.."church of ghetto" although admittedly is ok, doesn't quite do it for me, maybe i was just expecting too much, which could be harmful in its own right. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's not abrasive. It's not difficult. It's not accessible. It's not beat-oriented. It is textural. It is ambient. It is beat-ful. It is intricate. It is floaty. It is engaging. It is the album of the year (last week). ;) seek np: Sturm - 'Sturmgesten' --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
