ever prolific, haujobbs daniel myer returns for a second album as
architect, i went out shopping to get some noise. myers previous architect
album, 1998s galactic supermarket, leant toward the darker threads of
technoid drumnbass (panacea, tarmvred, etc). for i went out shopping to
get some noise, myer reigns in the breaks to toss down thirteen
mind-bendingly tight electro-acid-industrial-techno cuts, each bearing myer
s signature dark flair and impeccable production. comparisons range from afx
and caustic window on track 7 to emotive digital synthpop like early
autechre on track 5. not to be outdone by other sample-aholics, myer
ensnares the ultimate - beethovens moonlight sonata - and contorts it into
a neo-romantic opus on track 6. if this is what myer means by noise, the
rest of the musical world has a lot of catching up to do to touch architect.

the sounds of disaster document the past few years of ends life. a time of
shootings, home invasions, and near fatal accidents. outrageous, epic,
nihilistic, and absurd, the sounds of disaster is the soundtrack to a world
of b-movie fantasies where hydrogen bombs, hippie death cults,
subway-dwelling zombies, cannibal midgets, and legions of homicidal madmen
all run rampant. while end's first release science/fiction was filled with
spooky space themes, this recording is on a totally different planet. sure,
there are recognizable moments - surf rock guitars, crazed breakbeats, cop
show riffs, theremins and moogs, screaming choirs, horn sections, spy music,
japanese noise, scat vocals.... but theyve all been forced together into a
frenzied mass as catchy as it is schizophrenic. there are jump-up-and-down
rock numbers, sitar spaghetti westerns and even apocalyptic sing alongs. not
for the feint of heart, this is the musical equivalent of a car crash. 9
essential anthems for your own personal apocalypse.
