I actually went to the hardwax store when I was in Berlin this summer. it's in the oddest location - if you follow the street address, you find yourself between two buildings and walk down a wide alley (there's a billboard that says hardwax somewhere back there, but it's not 100% visible from the street), behind a building and up six flights of graffiti-drenched stairs in an apartment building that - coming from a suburban american background - looks like the sort of place where you could probably buy some good heroin. then, Bam! there's a record store! the door is open and there's music playing. the day I went there, a woman was playing records on the house decks while her kid ran around the place. their music is organized almost entirely by label and they stock all sorts of great records that are hard to find over here. I pulled out a couple stacks of records and took them to the listening station - when I finally decided what I wanted to buy, the clerk took my selections into the back and brought out fresh non-shopworn copies for me to take home with me. I spent about 250 euro that day and lugged around what must have been 50 pounds of records in my backpack for three weeks before I got the chance to listen to them. great store. you might want to add forcedexposure.com to your list - though they're historically a rock vendor, they carry a lot of hip-hop and idm that you can't find elsewhere. also, their prices are at least $1 less than everyone else, and shipping is a $4.50 flat fee for any size order. love em. -Wil M. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Sounds like record shopping in parts of Tokyo ... I passed past a room where there was a porn shoot going on to find a little noise store when I was doing that. Fucking weird. Great little shop as well. If only I could remember the name :-/ _muff._ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That makes me drool like Homer Simpson staring at a glazed donut. You know, I just realized I mislabeled one of the reviews - it was #7 below, should be forcedexposure rather than forcefield. I had a not-so-wonderful experience with them, although I agree with you about the selection and pricing. Forcefield is a wonderful review/interview site that has just come back from hiatus as well (http://www.forcefield.org/) -----Original Message----- From: wil maurer [mailto:battleforitaly@yahoo.com] Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2004 2:37 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] Mail Order Shop Reviews (hardwax) I actually went to the hardwax store when I was in Berlin this summer. it's in the oddest location - if you follow the street address, you find yourself between two buildings and walk down a wide alley (there's a billboard that says hardwax somewhere back there, but it's not 100% visible from the street), behind a building and up six flights of graffiti-drenched stairs in an apartment building that - coming from a suburban american background - looks like the sort of place where you could probably buy some good heroin. then, Bam! there's a record store! the door is open and there's music playing. the day I went there, a woman was playing records on the house decks while her kid ran around the place. their music is organized almost entirely by label and they stock all sorts of great records that are hard to find over here.
