Hi Slim,
I'm curious about Excepter myself -- saw the record at Aquarius (in SF) over
the weekend. I was wondering if it was metal, because it seemed to be filed
in the metal section, plus the name sounds like a riff on "Acceptor." But
the sleeve looked more electronix-oriented.... Have you heard it/them?
As for the gender question, you might begin with www.pinknoises.com -- not a
bad place to start researching. There's always a dearth of women making
music and getting recognized for it in the electronic scene, just like,
well, everywhere else. Some good female-led project, off the top of my head
(mostly electronic, not all "IDM"):
Fe-Mail (ha! - Norwegian noise/electronix, feat. members of SPUNK - see Rune
Grammofon)
AGF - nuanced cutup ambiance (www.musork.com)
Ellen Allien - brilliant, minimalist glitch-pop-tech-electro
Miss Kittin - electro-pop kitsch
Barbara Morgenstern - nuanced electro-pop
Juana Molina - psychedelic electro-pop from Argentina
Carrie - Morr-music-like electro-pop from Mexico
M.I.A. - killer minimal techno from germany (www.substatic.de)
Detalles - feat. Kate Simko (chicago) and Andres Bucci (chile), minimal
glitch techno
Andrea Parker - electro
Magda - minimal techno
Hope this helps. Oh yeah, and welcome to the IDM list, something of a
useless place to be on most days. You missied its critical heyday by, oh, 5
years.
Anyway,
Philip
