Some spam for you all, my label news: ############################################### hey, hope you are all doing well, just a quick note from us here at Highpoint Lowlife to let you know whats been going on in our dusty cold offices this past month.. Contents:: 1:: N.LN - 'Astronomy For Children' 2:: Fisk Industries at the BAFTAs! 3:: Recon - 'White Label' now being pressed. 4:: Highpoint Lowlife at the Slow Sound System 22 february 5:: mp3 download shop coming... 6:: Planet Mu / Shitmat artwork!! ############################################# 1:: N.LN 'Astronomy For Children' ################################ A wee pat on the back for oor Nyles Lannon, whose 'Astronomy...' album, our first of the year, has been picking up some fine reviews all over... "It's Lannon's ear for a good tune that's the main focus of this record. Wispy, melancholic tunes they are too, sometimes half buried beneath a haze of muted glitches and soft atmospherics, sometimes emerging to tickle your neurons and send tiny shivers up and down your limbs " BBC Album Of The Week, January 12th "For his first incursion in electronic territories, Nyles Lannon offers a very mature and controlled piece of work, where delicate touches bring these compositions to life instantaneously. Despite its complex settings, Astonomy For Children is incredibly catchy and is bound to capture the imagination of the most demanding of audiences. A truly accomplished piece of recording." The Milk Factory.co.uk "All in all, this is an exceptional release. N.ln has created a new sound which, though informed by the past, is beautiful and interesting in its own right." Gridface.com I shan't go on, for fear of giving the lad a big head, but if you wanna read a few more, check these: http://www.tesselate.me.uk/reviews/issue11/nin_review.htm http://www.almostcool.org/mr/n/n21mu.html ########################################### 2:: Fisk Industries at the BAFTAs!!! ########################################### Well, maybe he didn't come home with an award, but he did in our eyes! If you were watching the BAFTAs last night, you may recall the cool little swooshes and shimmering soundscores that they used as incidental music with the graphics in the 10 seconds of so, before they announced the nominees in each category. Ok, you might not have noticed unless you were really paying attention but we thought it pretty cool! Subversion! ############################################# 3:: Recon : White Label [hpll::007] ############################################# Chris Coode, the enigmatic london based sound sculptor, comes through with a whole new persona. Under the name Motion, Chris has had various projects released over the years, from a much sought after split 12" with Matmos on Fat Cat records, a self released full length, another full length on 12k records, and now a second full length for 12k due in the springtime. With Recon, Chris retains his subtle and immediate control of the music, but allows through a whole other dirtier grimey detail to the sound, the sound of machines in mid-crisis, a broken techno feel. Just dispatched to the pressing plant at the weekend, we expect the record back within a month, by which time we'll have it directly on the website for sale. ########################################################## 4:: Highpoint Lowlife at the Slow Sound System 22 february ########################################################## Coming up this sunday at the Foundry in London, Motion/Recon will be playing a live set, joined by 12k label mate Sebastien Roux. If you were around for the Aperstaartje label show case we helped put on last weekend, you will know what to expect - beautiful textured guitar processing and manipulations, awash on a flo of static! Oh yeah, support comes from this other chump, some lad, name'o Duff Parka or something! Check out http://www.slowsound.net for more details. ############################################################ 5:: mp3 download shop coming... ############################################################### More news on this as it happens, but we've been working with a partner to offer an mp3 download shop akin to Warp's bleep.com, where you can opt to purchase single mp3s or an album as opposed to being restricted to physical CDs. Not too sure how this will work out, but may as well be at the vanguard of the movement and see what happens!! More info to follow.. ########################################################## 6:: Planet Mu / Shitmat artwork!! ########################################################## Oh yes!! What does Planet Mu have to do with Highpoint Lowlife i hear you asking? Well, nothing actually, but one of the labelheads, Thorsten Sideb0ard, did the artwork on the latest release - Shitmat's 'Killababylonkitz'. I think the release date is around March, but you should check their site for details and sound samples. The artwork is quite a killer idea, completely Henry/Shitmat's inspiration - the premise is a raver lion, wearing a bright puffa jacket, phat spliff in mouth, machine gun in paw, sporting a big gold bling!bling! ring, while standing amidst a pile of savaged records in a record store! top stuff! ok, thanks for listening! If you want off this list, just reply with 'fug off' or something similar. cheers!
