there's this vietnamese restaurant near where i live that serves very excellent pho, but plays absolute schlock smooth jazz crap on the stereo. the pho is good enough, though, that usually you don't mind too much, though. the other day when i was there, though, one song came on that i recognized immediately as what must have been the sample source for the bassline/pad sound in marumari - baby m. it was, indeed, smooth jazz schlock, and it's bothering me that i have no idea what it is. does anyone have any idea what the source of the sample is there? i've gone and put a clip of the segment in question at the following url: http://www.pooplab.com/~elcheeze/baby_m_clip.mp3 if anyone has any idea wtf this is, i'd love to know.. thanks :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Marumari has mentioned in the past sampling Kenny G. If that's the sample in Baby M, I do not know... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I don't know how awful it is, frankly. I like the idea that he was able to rehabilitate something that came from pure shit. Think about it: Kenny G never played a sincere note in his life, but Josh took an isolated chunk of it and found a way to embed it in a sincere, emotional song. And he didn't clear the sample! THASS STIKIN IT TO THA MAN. On Tue, 10 Feb 2004, sleepy kitty wrote:
