SOGAR (12k/Germany)
Born 1970 in Nürnberg (Germany), Jürgen Heckel was relocated to Paris
almost a decade ago while he was exploring music as a guitarist in various
experimental-noise bands within Germany and France. A few years later
Heckel became interested in more non-traditional sound creation techniques
and began using a mixing board, cables and other found sounds as sources.
In addition he discovered the computer as a means to manipulate sound and
joined acoustic techniques with software and soon created what would become
his debut cd Basal (12k, 2001) and adopted the name Sogar (which means
"even" in German). After much critical success with Basal Heckel had the
opportunity to release more work as Sogar on various compilations and has
released a new full length cd, titled Stengel, on the Paris-based label
List. Sogar's music is formed of richly layered textures, a delicate
transmutation of static and formerly "nonmusical" sounds, a music where the
melodic elements are created out of particular sounds of uncertain origin.
All elements in this music slide and cover one against each other, running
into itself yet still keeps a very controlled balance, while creating
myriads of peaceful new lifeforms in the process.

P-A. ARCAND (Can)
Pierre-André Arcand is an interdisciplinary vocal/performance artist living
in Quebec city. His acoustic, electronic and computer based art is a blend
of voice, throatwork, texts, images, sound objects and instruments. He
creates his multi-media works of audio/video poetry and music withThe sonic
evolution generator, the Macchina Ricordi. An automated sampler, mixer and
composing software all-in-one, which can also process video images. By
means of short, variable loops, delays and overlaps, he constructs a
constantly changing continuum of sounds captured in real time. The verbal,
the vocal(inhaling, exhaling), the various noises, these acoustic phenomena
are processed on the spot and the performance demonstrates the structuring
procedure. Seven solo cd's and numerous compilations.

N.LN (US/HighPointlowLife)
San Francisco based Nyles Lannon is the guitarist and keyboard player for
local indie shoegazers Film School, whose warm, winding melodies wrap their
way around legions of layered chords and sonic blasts of guitars which
simmer into slow, dreamy waves. In his solo N.LN project, Nyles uses
electronics and computer manipulations to create a similar aesthetic,
gorgeous evocative atmospherics combine with constantly evolving crunched
and gnarly beats.

Iris Garrelfs (Germany/BitTonic) - live
German born Iris Garrelfs, is known for her emotive, improvised
glitch-tech performances based around warped voice sounds. Classically
trained, Iris employs various vocal techniques to achieve her stunning
tapestry of voice, which is used in many layers, in its natural state and
as a source sound. Iris is also active creating installations, Commissions
have included multi-channel, site-specific sound pieces for the CCA Glasgow
and Art at the Centre Reading. She has recently been commissioned to create
an interactive audio-visual work around recycling issues for Watermans
Artcentre. Together with Kaffe Matthews, Iris is involved with Field 61,
most recently hosting a monthly radio show on London's soundart station
Resonance FM, as well as recording
material for labels Bip Hop, 8bit & Consume.
