===== In brief: New album and website from Einoma. Sixtoo represses and rave reviews. Rip-Off Artist on the radio, on tour and in the press. Corker/Conboy and Sixtoo remix iso68 State River Widening sign up. The year may be drawing towards its close, but Vertical Form is, as ever, raging against the dying of the light. 2004 promises to be a year of frenetic activity for the label, but before we even get to that there are the following pressing matters to report... Einoma. Icelandic soundscapers extraordinaire Einoma release their stunning, icicle-sharp new album Milli Tonverka on November 10th. Its luxuriantly produced blend of earth-shaking electronics and haunting ambient essays are already cutting a swathe through the press. "More fractious than glacial, Einoma bring the sound of volcanoes about to kick off" (Sleaze Nation) "Play with the lights off and welcome the dark side into your room" (BBCi). "Einoma meet the dark pulse of our time" (De:Bug) For further sensory immersion check out the band's elegant new website: www.einoma.net Sixtoo. Due to unceasing demand, both Sixtoo's revered 12" single Outremont Mainline Runs Across The Sunset (vform025) and the vinyl version of its mother album Antagonist Survival Kit (vform026lp) are being repressed. A glance at these press notices will reaffirm why. "The love affair between electronica and hip hop is rarely consummated so successfully" 8/10 (Jockey Slut). "His vulnerability is his authenticity and all of this is what makes painfully beautiful albums such as Antagonist, so compelling, sincere and rare nowadays" (The Wire). "Think Eminem grappling with the grim landscapes of Method Man or Scaramanga" (Uncut). "A recipe that works beautifully." (X-Ray). "A world away from the depressingly formulaic music that has made hip hop a multi-million dollar concern" (Metro). "Creeping and sliding through hip hop's murky underworld towards a place where genres are disrupted, minds are fucked with and paranoia's embraced. Just remember - be at the ready!" (DJ Magazine) "Beautifully realized" (Rock Sound) The Rip-Off Artist. Ever-active Los Angelino Matt Haines, aka the ROA, will be imminently delighting the radio listeners of Canada, and even if you're not planning to be north of the 42nd parallel, you may still be able to catch his bon mots - as Haines explains. "I was recently interviewed on Canada's CBC Radio Two program "Brave New Waves". That interview will air on November 7th, starting at around 12.45am to 1.00am. Same times apply in all time zones. Apparently listeners in Buffalo, Detroit and Seattle can also catch the broadcast. Meanwhile, the ROA's stunning Pet Sounds album (vform030lp/cd) continues to attract across-the-board critical rapture. "No one sounds quite like this and that's more than enough reason to tip your hat to a record that becomes more intriguing with each listen" (Jockey Slut). "You should have it full blast on the hi-fi and be lurching around the room making those cretin hop dance moves that only dare show themselves after the absinthe'n'aftershock cocktails have separated mind from spine." (The Wire). "A record of great charm" (The Independent). Such is the escalating clamour for the ROA that a European tour is currently being inked in for early 2004. Watch this space for details, but so far Berlin, Paris, Barcelona and London all seem likely to get a look in - and there will be more.... Corker/Conboy. Indomitable multi-instrumentalists Corker/Conboy have been working on their studio tans. Their own forthcoming Vertical Form album is already promising wild African influences and jaw-dropping musical detours and the duo continue to moonlight with Tim 'Bomb The Bass' Simenon. They have also been remixing Germans Thomas Leboeg and Florian Zimmer, aka iso68. Sixtoo has a remix cut on the same record, in tandem with Matt Kelly (the album is a multi-artist re-imagining of iso68's Here/There album from last year). Calexico, Peter Thiessen and a clutch of other fine European artists complete the package, out now on Hausmusik in Germany. State River Widening. Vertical Form are happy and excited to welcome London's State River Widening to the label. After a two lovingly crafted, acoustic guitar-led albums - 1999's eponymous debut and this year's Early Music opus - they are now established amongst the highest echelons of contemporary soundscapers. The trio of multi-instrumentalists: David Sheppard (also of Ellis Island Sound and The Wisdom Of Harry), Keiron Phelan and John Steele, are already in the studio cutting tracks for their VF debut, due for release next summer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This email has been sent with an unregistered version of MaxBulk Mailer MaxBulk Mailer is a new easy-to-use mail merge software for Macintosh --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
