warp-com says that the monster warp party last weekend was 'one of the best warp parties ever'. did i end up in the wrong place? huge queues for the cloakrooms, overpriced bar, overcrowding and broken mixers aside, the sound in the main room was terrible... it sounded like a hi-fi in an ice rink. i assumed some of the speakers were broken but there was no mention of it on the site. i've enjoyed many warp parties in the past, including the fantastic nesh nights and even the lighthouse party that so many others complained about. but this was not a good night - i went for some music and could hardly hear it, let alone feel it. so am i prematurely aged miserable git, or did anyone else wish they'd gone elsewhere? alex --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

blimey mate you must have been. i've been going to warp events since Blech in '96 and I thought this was up there with the best of them. up there with the original '98 vapour in fact. the venue was great - spacious (once you'd worked out how to avoid the inevitable bottlenecks and these weren't *that* bad compared to Fabric say). The sound system was clear to my ears...i've heard a *lot* worse, especially in large clubs. the cinema bit was genius and there was, for once, enough seating for everyone who wanted it. my only complaint was that they didn't make enough use of the bars - they should have had a dj in each bar, all night...especially up the top. it's not like there aren't enough electronica djs around.... set wise, jamie lidell and plaid were exemplary...vibert made me shake my ass. aphex was enjoyable from a distance, although watching the madness below made me wonder if i was getting old. nothing to complain about there though. the fact that you enjoyed the rancid corporate toss that was the lighthouse party suggests to me that we're after very different things from our clubbing. still...i do agree that the bar was overpriced. that was an unnessasary expense...not that i was drinking anyway but I do agree. even water was pricey. ----- Original Message ----- From: "alex" <alex@slab.org> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, November 05, 2003 10:29 AM Subject: [idm] that monster warp party - did anyone else not enjoy it?

Fair enough, I guess my ears have been spoilt by nice sound systems recently... Don't know how you avoided the bottlenecks though! I like to close my eyes, listen and dance; couldn't really do that on halloween - no room to dance anywhere near the swallowed-up sound. I do have fond memories of the lighthouse party - once you managed to get into the main room there was plenty room by the speakers, the sound was top notch and the music marvellous. Glad you liked it anyway! The show cancelled the week after it was confirmed, which was roughly two months ago. Sorry. T. Raumschmiere is playing on 11-20 however. Thanx.
