There's a lot of news since the last Lex e-mail. Here it is : NON-PROPHETS "HOPE" IS IN STORES NOW !!! It's the brand new album from mc Sage Francis and producer Joe Beats and it really is as good as they say it is. Choruses, verses, beautiful "jeep beat" production. You can check out the artwork and Real Audio here : http://www.lexrecords.com/docs/catalogue/018.html There's a stunning Pitchfork review here : http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/n/non-prophets/hope.shtml Here's some other reviews : http://www.musicomh.com/albums/non-prophets.htm ... http://www.revolutionslive.com/albumreviews.htm ... http://www.knowtheledge.net/nonprophets_hope.htm ... http://www.musicalbear.com/article/?522 ... * In the print press the album has clocked up some rave reviews already : The Independent 4/5, X-ray 4/5, Bang 5/5, Ice 4/5... * SAGE FRANCIS FROM NON-PROPHETS LIVE IN NYC 24TH OCT Sage is performing a CMJ showcase in New York on 24th October at Rare, 416 W. 14th St, New York, NY 10011. It's an album recorded in analogue in Hymie's Basement studios, Minneapolis. The album was recorded onto 1/4 inch tape and the vinyl was cut straight to wax at 45rpm and sounds like it's never been near a PC. The album touches on the sounds of The Breeders, Pavement, Ween, Beck and other classy indie artists, but of course it's unique. Yoni and Andy are the guys behind many projects including cLOUDDEAD, Why?, Reaching Quiet and The Fog and there's a strong experimental aesthetic wrapped around the beautiful songs that make up the album. * The album is listed in The Observer Music Monthly's Ten Best CDs of the month : http://observer.guardian.co.uk/omm/10bestcds/0,12103,1033559,00.html * The album is out on 27th October in the UK and Europe and 4th November in the USA. * There's also going to be a single at some point featuring a remix by Microphones (listen to Microphones here : http://www.krecs.com/Audio_Video/) and a video by German film maker Markus Wambsganns (more on him here : http://www.kaliber16.com). ore news on the single soon. DM & JEMINI "TWENTY SIX INCH EP" Danger Mouse & Jemini The Gifted One return on 26" vinyl and CD. The vinyl has four tracks : the "What U Sittin On? Twenty Inch Remix" featuring Cee Lo (from Goodie Mobb & The Dungeon Family) and Tha Alkaholiks and all new vocals by Jemini plus a totally new evil beat; there's a remake of "Ghetto Pop Life" with a new hook, new verses and cameo by Jem's hero, Sadat X; an entirely new version of GPL called "Ghetto Pop Life II", where only the sentiment remains the same, with Jem singing over a super-chilled flugel horn loop; and a BRAND NEW TRACK (!!!) called The Shit - 'Who's the shit? / I'm the shit / I'm a bad motherfucker...' - the EP should be out on 17th November 2003 in Europe. Check out the EP artwork : http://www.lexrecords.com/twenty_six.htm * MORE GHETTO POP ACCOLADES On HipHopSite : http://www.hiphopsite.com/?p=%2Fsearch%2F%3Fartistid%3D4481BCCA-D7D4-493D-8C FD-7AFD07A65039 On HipHopInfinity : http://www.hiphopinfinity.com thanks! In The San Francisco Weekly http://www.sfweekly.com/issues/2003-10-01/reviewed2.html/1/index.html * SADLY DM & JEMINI CANCEL EURO DATES Due to pressing issues in NYC Jemini The Gifted One has been unable to make it over to the UK and France and Switzerland for the scheduled live dates this October / November. Lex and Jemini would like to apologise to any fans who had their hearts set on this. Sorry. We'll make sure there are DM & Jemini shows in Europe soon... BOOM BIP ON THE BREEZEBLOCK (BBC RADIO ONE) Boom Bip has done an exclusive mix for BBC Radio One. It's been broadcast already! Luckily you can listen to the archived Radio One breezeblock mix session from last week here : http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/breezeblock/ * U R HERE CHICAGO ANIMATION FEST An animated video for U R Here has been submitted to the Chicago Animation Festival awards. This will join the Four Tet and Lali Puna remixes and a brand new track to make up the new EP. More news soon. LEX EUROPEAN TOUR 2003 Holy fuck! Lex throws a big London show and nothing bad happens! In fact, lots of good things happened including lush sound and a totally sold out great big old theatre on a Sunday night. Sage Francis must have turned on quite a few of the crowd at the sold-out Scala show with the most incredible live PA I have ever witnessed. Make sure you catch Sage when he tours this Spring. Buck65 took the old-man Tom Waits concept to an extreme with a beautifully crafted stand up set. Then Boom Bip brought the noise, an hour of grinding guitars, MPC, Hanzen-Frick-drum-demolition and a Mac. Who does he think he is? Thurston Moore probably. Look at the pictures from the show here - http://www.delarge.co.uk/sagebuckboom/ - use the scroll bar on the right. Thanks www.delarge.co.uk ! * A huge THANK YOU to Tom Baker, Daniel, Bryan, Hazen, Matt, Rich, Gina, Sage!, all the promoters especially Vector in Leeds, the venue staff and of course everyone who turned out for the events. Thanks! * Look below for info on more European Lex live action. MORE LEX LIVE ACTIVITY IN EUROPE Vapour are promoting a clutch of events based around indie-label showcases in London on Halloween. Lex is representing at the Rhythm Factory in Whitechapple with a fat line-up - BUT NO DM & JEMINI (see above) - instead there's Tes (live), Kid Acne (live), Supersoul (live), La Man Fria (live), DJ Buddy Peaces. Check out all the details here - http://www.vapour.co.uk/events.html - and go and buy a ticket! * A week before that you can catch Tes in Rennes at the Electroni[k] Festival. More details here - http://elk.online.fr/ PRINCE PO NEWS The legendary Organized Konfusion MC / producer Prince Poetry has finished recording all the songs for his debut full length solo album, due out on Lex next year. The album includes production by Danger Mouse, who also managed the project and made sure all the joints are hot. DM was assisted on production duties by a host of tight producers including Madlib, J-Zone, pop / R&B hitmaker Richard X and Jel from Anticon. Expect further updates on this project and the first single soon. STEREOLAB 4 TES Amazing band like Tes shock!! : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3182156.stm 8 D U Y A 25 ~ Forever young! The Junior Boys much hyped super-EP "Birthday / Last Exit" is out now on the very cool Kin Records. Classic 21st century pop, plus an unmissable remix by Fennesz : http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?merchID=11833 ~ Pinched from the Anticon lunchroom : http://www.vinylexchange.com/sounds/JELappellas/ ~ Danger Mouse has executed a very dope remix of a Pedro track. More details soon no doubt at www.melodic.co.uk ~ Pinched from djanna.com : http://www.freshsensation.com/samorost.swf ~ News on Lex in French : http://www.90bpm.net/news/indexphp.shtml ~ IMHO Kill Bill isn't bad at all. I really enjoyed it. The soundtrack is wicked and the talky bits are funny. www.lexrecords.com ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <lexoleum@lexrecords.com>.
