In light of current L.A. policing methods, who regard any form of electronic music as rave music, what kind of music do you think constitutes 'rave music'? Of late it seems that any form of electronic performance can be regarded as 'rave' music through the very ambiguous categorization of electronic music itself. Does it now mean that the music of John Cage is rave, is a guitar [an electronic instrument] now a rave instrument? Was rave a youth culture synonymous with the late eighties through early nineties, or do you feel the term has come to embody a larger meaning? Is it not true that electronic music in all its diversity has existed pre and post rave culture? That Philip Glass concert your folks have just been to? Careful, they might be raving just like Scooter. _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not to be a dickhole, but some guitars are acoustic, some are electric, but unless you're playing one of those wankerific midi synth guitars, they are NOT electronic.

I think its whatever they want to decide it is. As a reaction to drug culture, i'd imagine they mean anything that goes all night and has djs, and not enough money to pay them off. Technicalities like guitars being electronic instruments are really just that - technicalities. But i'm not in LA - just how wide are they going? Like shutting down the goth clubs and movie soundtrack studios? I'm not really sure what anybody considers "rave" anymore. The term went out of fashion a long time ago, and there haven't been regular events in a while. Even when there were events, there wasn't much interesting going on most of the time anyway. Most of the dj culture rave scene has gone into clubs. There is better scene for "live" electronic music than i ever saw during the rave days now. At least in the US, but its still rather small and not very "party" oriented. - cutups --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it is sad that politics is involved here but it looks like 'A Man' got so scared in the 90s by the scale of number of people gathering to dance to electronica, so they made a decision to kill dance culture by all means what scared "them" most was a reminder of 1967-68 situation it may sound funny, but back then young protesters were getting very close to actually overthrow some governments in some places its writen in those terms aboutit in some book on the 60s recently puplished i've heard it on NPR 2-3 days ago poor scared bastards they are afraid of everything now __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? finally got Ae's "anti-ep", and one of the best things about it is the sticker talking about the bill that was impending in england which was attempting to criminalize raves by classifying the music as that with "repetitive beats" or some similar ridiculously broad definition. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, I was at a "private" party on saturday [ie, with friends mostly...donating money towards the system] and we were doing a LIVE PA ...beatless noise track when the cops ripped the gate open [literally] and drove in and proceeded to search 21+ males saying "THIS IS AN ILLEGAL RAVE". [yeah just imagine all the people dancing their heads off to a 1BPM noise track track]...there were even people wearing anti-raver t-shirts [the irony]....they took all of our id's and even called parents of people who didn't have proof of their age.... The didn't present a warrant, didn't ask if they could come in... After their search was over they started searching the place and basically found a pipe ...but didn't take it... I guess they were really disappointed they didn't find anything so they started saying that the sealed water that was being sold had GHB in it...and the decorations [balloons] had drugs in them. And they threatened to strip down a car to search it...they took dust samples...it was RIDICULOUS! Then they wrote up the poeple who threw the party and said they would ticket the venue owner for allowing the party... even though the city council itself allowed the party without the permit. When the cops found out [the next day] that the city council let this party happen they said..."The venue wasn't illegal...but the music was" WTF? Now i thought people in this country had the right assemble peacefully ... cookiez http://www.mashup.org
