There's two versions: A standard stereo CD version and a DVD Audio version. The DVD Audio version is in 5.1 Dobly Surround (24 bit audio vs. 16 bit) and of the 11 or so songs I think 6 have actual videos (several of which are quite good). The highlight however isn't so much the video accompaniment, but hearing incredibly intricate, beautifully sculpted IDM/ambient/Glitch hop in 24 bit - 5.1. I have the stereo version as well and I listen to it everywhere, but you really should try and experience this album in 5.1 with a good system. As far as Tipper's music, it's hard to compare him to other artists. I think he is the most technically gifted producer in electronic music today (please notice I said technically). His music definantly shows influence in glitchy IDM stuff (Schematic, Toytronic, Musik Aus Strom) but it takes it a step further with his use of organic instrumentation and melody, kind of like Telefon Tel Aviv and some of the Hefty stuff. That being said Tipper has truly transcended these artists, in overall technical ability and composition in my opinion, making it difficult for me to compare him. I would guess he's a classically trained musician, with a head for technology. Tipper is also 1/2 of Crunch on Musik Aus Strom, if you're familiar with that project. If you haven't heard it (stereo CD or 24 bit DVD) give "Surrounded" a spin. It's my IDM pick of the year. Sean Horton a.k.a. Nordic Soul ^(|_|)^

I'll be in Portland, OR on Saturday, November 15th to do an in-store performance at Music Millennium to promote my new CD "Claustrophilia" coming out in late October on Lunaticworks [yes, a shameless plug]. The in-store is at 5pm and goes about an hour, so I'm hoping to play another show that same night somewhere else in Portland before flying out the next day. If any of you guys are planning a show that night in the area and would like me on the bill please email me the details off-list. All I want in exchange is a bottomless pint of northwest stout and a ride back to my hotel. Thanks. -Chachi http://www.chachijones.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I haven't heard the DVD version, but I was unimpressed by the CD: nothing particularly standout, in any way. I don't relly want to get into it or anything, but the dvd version is anything but somnambulic. Or maybe it is, come to think of it in a good way. --- seeklektek <eclectics@comcast.net> wrote:
