The Rip-Off Artist - swinging new LP and 12" endorsements, plus new
recordings slated.
Einoma - Earth-shattering new album imminent.
Corker/Conboy in the studio and writing for Bomb The Bass.
Something clandestine from Sixtoo.
The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is upon us once more - time to
remind you what's been cooking chez Vertical Form over the summer and a
sneak preview of some auditory delights to be unveiled from VF's new Curtain
Road nerve-centre over the coming months.
LA's wittiest art/House exponent Matt Haines - aka the Rip-Off Artist - has
been wowing all and sundry with both his astonishing new Pet Sounds
long-player (released September 15th) and the mightily catchy Little Tiny
1/8" Jack 12" (now back in stock - with an extended dancefloor-magnetizing
mix of the A-side to boot). Currently reaching for the ROA discs at the peak
of their Saturday night sets are esteemed turntable toreadors like Andrew
Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Trevor Jackson, Optimo and Richie Hawtin. Need we
say more? Well, yes, actually. Look at these press verdicts on the Rip-Off
Artist's Pet Sounds masterpiece:
"No one else sounds quite like this and that's more than enough reason to
tip your hat to a record that becomes more intriguing with each listen"
(Jockey Slut)
"This is no clicks and cuts intervention: it's full scale House hijacking"
(The Wire)
"A Record of great charm" (The Independent)
The Rip-Off Artist has extensive live plans for later in the year, but in
the meantime he's playing Tokyo's Star Pine's Café, Kihijoji, on October
4th.
http://warszawa.co.jp will furnish the details.
Mr Haines is currently working on music for release on his own label and has
an EP on Platinum Projects (via XL Recordings) slated for December 1st
release.
Iceland's next-big-thing, tectonic electronicists Einoma are set to follow
up last year's critically lauded Undir Feilnotum debut with a brand new
album. Presently awaiting an exact street date, but earmarked for the end of
'03, Milli Tonverka is a jaw dropping cocktail of digital envelope-pushing
and beauteous ambient tranquility that is set to send seismic tremors across
the world of electronica.
Ever-active duo Adrian Corker and Paul Conboy are in the throes of their
usual hectic schedule which, working on their second Corker / Conboy album,
collaborating with John Mathias of Accidental / Herbert fame whilst
moonlighting as writers for the upcoming Bomb The Bass album. Expect the
fruits of these protean labours sometime in '04.
Finally, whispers from Halifax, Nova Scotia lead us to believe that Canadian
alt.hop maestro and all round genre-mangler par excellence Sixtoo has
something very, very tasty up his sleeve for our mutual and universal
edification. Stay tuned for this and other hot news from Vertical Form
central.
In the meantime check out these exemplary recent VF releases.
