I think you're reffering to the rapture, not idm but rocking and very appealing to the electroinc dance music fan. I agree with you on the notwist and postal service, those are nice but they hardly rock although the first notwist album does actually rock. maybe a little more industrial than IDM, but Babyland might fit into what you're looking for. So they might not use DSP and have stuttery hickupping beats, but they do fucking rock and they have the live and electronic percussion combined like you wanted. and the vocals are totally an essential component of the band. I think my favorite is one of their older ones, You Suck Crap, but Know Your Enemy, the newest one is probably the most contemporary sounding in terms of beats and its also pretty damn good.
