I keep repeating the question: What does it sound like dry. And why is there no mention whether there is post-processing (added reverb+delay) or not. --- http://lackluster.bandcamp.com | http://lackluster.org | http://esaruoho.tumblr.com | iPhone: +358403703659

guess the article writer/page aren't music writing oriented... but you can see the instrument in the video and him playing it live, there doesn't seem to be any software-related post processing action/piece happening to the eye?

I can't vouch for it myself, but it looks like they're saying this is a dry recording, a straight recording from that portable recorder sat next to the instrument. The delay/reverb that you hear can easily be created inside metal cables (put your ear against a suspension bridge) Dan 2014-11-05 11:27 GMT+00:00 Esa Juhani Ruoho <esaruoho@gmail.com>:

if u watch it on vimeo you can read that is a dry-recording... *"Yaybahar is an electric-free, totally acoustic instrument designed by Gorkem Sen. The vibrations from the strings are transmitted via the coiled springs to the frame drums. These vibrations are turned into sound by the membranes which echo back and forth on the coiled springs. This results in an unique listening experience with an hypnotic surround sound. What you hear in this performance is captured in realtime without any additional effects and with no post audio processing. If I recall correctly, high frequencies propagate more quickly through a metal spring than low frequencies. When the vibrations of the instrument travel down the springs and resonate against those metal plates, it creates a fairly unique sounding reverb-esque effect. A single impulse will create a "pew" kind of sound, as the higher frequencies arrive first. The spring/plate combos are essentially a pair of weird, physical all-pass filters. All-pass filters are an essential component of many reverb effects/plugins. It's how the blaster sounds in Star Wars were created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtUGYKjG09g It does sound pretty unreal though.
