I wish I'd been there, but at least I'll get to see mu-Ziq tonight in Chicago.

David Kristian was top shape last night, playing hard. It sounded a lot like his last cd Music from the Mermaid Room, which btw is also awesome, the first and second tracks alone making it worth buying, so everybody should check it out! Everything sounded live and improvised, keeping the rythm tight, always mixing it up with new layers of sound and lush melodies. Half the crowd was sitting down on the floor at the beginning of the set but the great music had everybody get up at once.
I didn't expect too much people to this show but the room was packed when u-ziq appeared on stage. He started his set with the first track from Billious Path. He continued playing tracks from his new album for about 45 minutes, he played Siege of Antioch, the third track from Billious Path, which was really intense. Then after that, he played some old school u-ziq stuff for another 30 minutes, drum&bass and more banging crazy sounds. It was a cool set, it didn't sound much live though, I thought maybe he was just mixing some mp3s.
Looking forward to the Squarepusher + Luke Vibert show on sunday night. Thanks to www.2hqd.net for producing all these great shows in Montreal.
