Strange coincidence this.
Exactly a year ago, I moved to Boston from Australia
and had sent a similar email to the tech-house list.
Results of a years research in looking for decent events
and nights in Boston:
1. Wednesdays at the Phoenix Landings:
The Phoenix Landing is this hole in the wall Irish Pub in Cambridge
with a cheesy red decor and cheap beer which probably
hosts the best techno night in this part of the country.
Somehow, the organisers pull of bringing in the best DJs
and producers from all over the world for an entry of $3-$5.
Steve Bug, Chris Leibing, DJ Buck, Doc Martin, Heiko Laux,
Dave Mothersole, Fred Gianelli (!!!), Stewart Walker, etc.
The residents are quality DJs in their own right.
I have never had a "bad music night" at this place.

2. Thursdays at the Phoenix Landing:
For some top notch drum and bass, if you are into that stuff.
(They bring some good guest
DJs and I think Klute played there a few weeks ago)

3. Sundays at the Phoenix Landing:
(The Landing again, but this is a place of immense virtue!)
A decent house night, but the music can get a bit too "vocally"
for my tastes sometimes.

4. Avalon:
This is Boston's cheesy superclub and often has commercial DJs
pelting out generic trance.
But once in a while, you get a decent techno DJ.
I think Josh Wink plays there in August.
They had a cool sister night called Axis, where I saw
Layo and Bushwacka, LSG, Luke Slater, etc, but thats now shut down. :-(

5. Defmatch at Vertigo Boston:
A decent breaks-electro night. Cool to watch the
break dancing kids, but the average crowd is very young.
(Nothing wrong with that, just makes me more aware of my own
mortality)

6. 3AM at The Palace - 1500 Broadway (route 99)
Saugus, Massachusetts:
An after hours night, roumers are that they play
some decent techno.
I have never checked it out, too long a drive and
my old bones usually need to be in bed by then.
7. The "Enormous Room" in Central Square cambridge
has decent electronica Djs playing weekly.
(Was quite surprised to hear someone play german minimal
house ala perlon, playhouse, kompakt, etc there one night)
8. Do check out www.miscon.net they seem to be very
up to date with New England happenings.
9. As someone has suggested, do join the boston-idm yahoo list,
some very useful snippets of IDM ish happenings do float by there.
10. Satellite Records on Mass Ave in Back Bay has a decent
dance vinyl collection.
Good luck!
