idm and electro geeks also should check out the now reissued classic by Just Ice, "Cold Gettin Dumb". big, choppy, nasty electroish breaks...lots of 808, total Mantronix style. Produced by....Mantronix. I sold the original of this to a collector for a -sick- amount of money years back before this recent reisssue. HIGHLY recommended. I think Autechre were quizzed on this in one of those "blind listens" in The Wire. Hey Peter, Being from NYC you should know Kurtis Kahleel engineered under his own pseudonym Mantronik and when performing with MC Tee it was Mantronix; hence pluralization equals two artists. http://www.discogs.com/release/56036 --- Peter Becker <pbecker3@nyc.rr.com> wrote:

Just Ice is definitely one of the artists I inadvertently left off my list and I highly recommend his first album, "Back to the Old School". But, I have a question. You said they recently reissued "Cold Gettin Dumb", which wasn't an album - it was a song on his first album. So, did someone reissue the single? That seems a bit odd to me considering (to the best of my knowledge) "Back to the Old School" has never been re-issued on CD. Just seems strange that someone would reissue one track off this great album (albeit the most "popular" track on the album). But actually I'm hoping you mistyped and meant to say that "Back to the Old School" has been reissued (I'm still listening to my LP that I bought in 1986 with money I made working as a busboy - that record is still in near mint condition, but I'd love a copy on CD). And I'll tack on another recommendation I forgot earlier - Schoolly D. Some hit-n-miss stuff in his catalog, but his best moments are top notch old school hip hop. Jive just recently put out a respectable "best of" in 2002 (forgot the title though). What a great stroll down memory lane this thread has been...
