.:hello:. Straight to business: This Sunday sees the start of the vespers sessions - three summer sunday sessions presented by our bestest buddies Kinky Voodoo and curated by us. There are two reasons that we got involved in this - the main one is that Pool is one of our favourite London venues and the idea of putting together a really solid regular sunday session, with a strong emphasis on live acts and the more melodic, sunny side of electronica really appealed. Our ulterior motive however, was to have a place to experiment in - to stray away from the safety of our core set that we've been pimping around for the past couple of months, and push into a new way of performing electronic music live. These sessions are to be our playground as we test the waters, both with new material and new techniques. For the first session, happening this Sunday, the 22nd of June at 6pm - we are proud to invite two unique live acts to support us: First up will be Sheffield's Media Lounge. AV pranksters, merchants of the obscure and forgotten - they splice up the television that nobody wanted and represent it in masterful fashion. They were responsible for the much praised visuals at the Dustpunk gigs, and have material being shown this week at the Cybersonica festival at the ICA. With an emphasis on entertainment over artyness...as they put it themselves - They're here to remind us that if we watch too much tv, we may start enjoying it. Next up, some truly unique soundscapey electronica from Dissolved. This Glasgow based musician played with us at Vent last year and we've been looking for an excuse to get him down to London ever since. I literally do not know what to expect from him, other than utter quality. It's difficult to provide points of reference but imagine if you can, Goblin, John Carpenter, The Cocteau Twins, Coil, Slowdive and Boards of Canada collaborating on a track, and the whole thing being produced by Future Sound of London and Orbital. and even that's not quite adequate. With a debut release last year on Benbecula offshoot Alba Absurdia, as well as scoring duties on a load of Ant Carpendale's dv nightmares, Dissolved is one to keep a close eye on. DJ support is provided by the venerable duo of Kinky Voodoo's John Power, tearing himself away from his liver crushing rockrave madness and expressing his more sensitive side, and the ever resourceful TomM, who is guaranteed to playing stuff that you won't hear for months yet. Here's the listing: Vespers - warm electronic music for summer sundays Session #1 - Sunday June 22nd Digitonal (toytronic/seed) live Dissolved (alba absurdia) live Media Lounge VJs live Djs JohnP (kinky voodoo), TomM (wfmu) The Pool 104 Curtain Road, London 6pm till midnight Free entry all night www.digitonal.com/vespers Future Sessions include: 20th July Default response takeover. Wherein the Birmingham default response crew have the run of the night. Known for their incredibly successful sessions up in Brum (and for which the template for vespers is largely cribbed), which have included live performances from Arovane, Ulrich Schnauss, Metamatics and Brothomstates...the boys from default will present nothing short of the finest warm electronica you can hear, alongside a very rare live performance from Xela (neoouija/city center offices). 31th August Full program TBC, but we are pleased to confirm a live performance from one of the young rising stars of electronica, Ochre (repeat/toytronic). .:July's live action:. Busy month will July be... It kick's off on July the 6th at the Cheltenham Festival where we're doing a night of more classically orientated material at The Strand bar. Beats will still be in full effect, but we'll be returning to our roots with a more reflective set worthy of our billing. Alongside us will be perhaps one of the most creative DJs on the scene, Richard Lannoy of Subvision. See http://www.cheltenhamfestivals.co.uk for more details. July 17th - The Selector Live @ the Spitz. Still awaiting some more info on this, but we'll be doing a short set at this showcase for the British Council's Selector radio show. July 30th - Watch This Space: outside the National Theatre. Pray for sunshine as we perform in the open air down on the South Bank. It kicks off around 6pm - keep an eye on the website for more details. the latest info on all this and more is, as ever, available on our website: www.digitonal.com . .:Recordings:. The Seed Records sampler should now be in all good record stores - it's quality, it's a fiver and we've got an exclusive track on there. go pick it up. There's a lovely review of it here: http://www.delta-9.net/show.php?id=/features/seedvol1.html and it's also in stock at the very reliable Warpmart. We have recently completed a stringedup remix of the Multiplex tune 'With Hands + With Feet'. It should see a release at some point in the near future. .:Other things to make and do:. .:anyotherbusiness:. Current Listening: Ulrich Schnauss, Ms John Soda (cheers to Katie for the introduction - it's our new soundtrack!), King Seven, Xela, Fourtet, Metamatics (at 5am as the sun rises over london which is probably how all music should be heard for best effect), First Day Back (watch this space for details of a london date of the potential future of rock music) and lots of trashy bootlegs (*so* last year i know, but nothing better for playing at house parties). Our Favourite people: Warren and all at Nizim for an unusual and cracking night, JC at shotdead for the vespers flyer design, all at Seed for the best night out in memory, the Kraked boys and girls for making us welcome in Reading and Feedle for the bits and pieces. Someday that man will rule the world... .:cheers for listening!:> ***this mailing list is put out by digitonal...it's not for commercial use...we keep all personal details private...we're good like that...mail us at mailing@digitonal.com if you don't want to know***
