I've not listened to it as much as i'd like at work, and when i do i've stuck to the albums on my mp3 jukebox.. I'm starting to want to go and get some new albums but i'm a bit outta touch at where to start looking.. ANyone got any recommendations.. I love BOC, arovane, bola, plaid etc.. the more melodic stuff is just easier for me to accept.. but what have been the stellar releases over the last 6 months say... you can't go wrong with the new Sense album on u-cover. it's called 'Learning To Be' and is a lovely melodic release, much better than his debut album on neoouija (a view from a vulnerable place), which is sadly, out of print. if you don't believe me, fine, go for the soundclips. http://www.u-cover.com/u-cover/template.php?data=u-cover015 http://www.u-cover.com/u-cover/template.php?data=release-front&number=015&label=u-cover available via the usual outlets. i know l'usine icl's album "Iron City" (hymen/madmonkeyrecords) is so last year and all that, but it's still one of the only things that had any kind of staying power (and audible progression from previous releases) for me, personally. Esem has a new album out on Merck called "Serial Human", bit of a move away from his deFocus album "Enveloped", but still melodic + lush in places. soundclips @ http://www.m3rck.net/html/discog/014.html and if you're feeling mighty lazy, just go for http://www.m3rck.net/html/discog/merck14-0.m3u .. then there's the usual conversationpieces. there's a bunch of people running around with xela and ulrich schnauss written on their faces. might be worth a gander, who knows with this melodic stuff. .. -- esajuhaniruoho http://www.lackluster.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That'd be _Punctuated_. I second this rec. - sounding very good indeed, as does virtually everything in the Quench/Funckarma repertoire. The last Funckarma release _Bourbon Sounds_ was also excellent, though on vinyl 12" only. The Xela and the Esem (referred to in other posts) have their merits too. I'd put in a word for Pub _>single_ too, though it isn't that recent, and may not satisfy the beat-driven; swathes of textures and atmospheres and an echophile's delight. alan/beyond...sound ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: www-mail.usyd.edu.au --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Based on all the excellent suggestions so far, I'd have to include Ambidextrous' new one on Shaped Harmonics called 'Post-Pop Workshop'. Most definately Nick's strongest and most mature release to date. This has been a favorite of mine for a couple months now and will probably wind up on my top 10 this year. http://www.mu.ru/ambi I've also found myself playing Kadah Vresky's 'Tomato Weirdo' release on Djak-Up-Bitch/Clone. A very diverse and solid listen for fans of BoC, Prefuse 73, or Casino vs. Japan. http://www.clone.nl/outnow/0180%20kadah%20vresky/texull%20is%20sea.mp3 http://www.clone.nl/outnow/0180%20kadah%20vresky/TR30.mp3 http://www.clone.nl/ And although not melodic, I have to say the beatwork on Portland's 'Distal' MD is just stellar. - synctank perfect_dark radio http://www.synctank.net ----- Original Message -----

i just received a copy of Tam Tam - Miles, on the Music for Speakers label. i like it quite a bit, especially the relaxo abstracto remix. I have two questions: 1) does anyone know of any shops in the US where i can order more releases from this label? they seem to be virtually impossible to find (though i haven't tried ebay yet. i'd prefer to get them new anyway.) 2) i'm particularly interested in Sonar Lodge and Relaxo Abstracto. unfortunately, i don't have a sound card here at work so i can't check out the sound clips on the website (http://www.musicforspeakers.com/) so i'd be curious about any opinions on the work of these two artists, or about any of the other releases on the label. thanks, dave np - fourtet "rounds" and loving it. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? I've gotten them both from PBE ( playing.by.ear@mindspring.com ) and also from S://Kimo (support@skimo.com ) - both mail order outfits which offer great stuff and matching service. Being on both of their weekly email updates lists would be a good move if you want to stay up and what's out. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Keep an eye on things related to Lee Norris - whether it's on Hydrogen Dukebox (recent Norken and Nacht Plank CDs, e.g.). or Neo-Ouija. Lee has always been right there, but lately he's ever more so. If you haven't heard the new Deru ("Pushing Air" on Neo-Ouija), hang on to your hat - STELLAR!!! Someone else asked about Bola's involvement in this and I'd like to know as well. n5MD has some great stuff out. MD is wonderful. At 08:17 AM 6/14/2003, Jeff Davis wrote:

from what I heard of what he was doing a few years back it was pretty far from melodic. Good, dsp-esque max/msp type stuff, but far from melodic. Has he changed his style, or is this relativley melodic to say, autechres' latest or the more hyper programmed algorythmic stuff out there? --- Jeff Davis <pHlow@earthlink.net> wrote:

Thanks a lot tho :) i look forward to sampling these in the near future.. as in listening, not the remixing kind of sampling :) Jim --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

well, i apologize for turning this into a self promotion, but i make melodic electronic music, and i have some free samples on-line feel free to download and share. www.nophi.net/rg has samples from my discography (click the music link) www.kikapu.com has a full-length net album for [free] download -- along with about 40 other online albums, also free. p.s. im not sure if i would say my stuff is *great* melodic electronica, but it's definately fun, and funky. -r
