When i heard about this double CD i was rather excited, because
Minion and Resurrector have been doing some of the best new
dark/broken/hardcore/experimental sounds in the US IMO,
and darkmatter as far as i can tell is probably the best soundystem
in the us mixing up these sounds and doing it well...
Here's my review.
Extreme electronics, and splintered beats from LA's Darkmatter soundsystem.
For the past several years Darkmatter has been running things in the realm
of dark, experimental hard/breakcore, developing an amazing scene that
respects both live acts and djs. This disk showcases three of their crew's
most exciting. Disk 1 is a 33 track mix from DJ Diskcore, running the gamut
of gash-opening powernoise, industrial noise core, shredding electronics,
doomy breakcore, and harsh abstract experiments, with a tight-mix heavy
style. Includes some dubs from diskore himself and minon. Disk 2 is 13
original trax split between minion and resurrector. Resurrector's style
draws rich, light, melancholy ambience as a shield over thumping, crashing
broken beat meteors. Minon brings a similar depressing symphonic ambience
to noisy breakcore. The negative spaces try to drown you and the positives
batter you. All in all an amazing double disk with some of the most vital
hardsound out.
I've got copies at WRECKED if you're interested.
