Couple of micro, or smaller reviews.
Prefuse 73 : One Word Extinguisher
In a word, dope. Excellent and all that too. I still maintain Vocal Studies
is an excellent piece of work, and this is just better. Scott certainly
seems to be maturing at a great rate, and I hope we see more and more
excellence from him. He deserves to be huge, but as someone said, won't
because he's so good. Nice interview with him at pitchforkmedia.com too.
Amon Tobin : Verbal Remixes
You should buy this. Why? Well, the Kid 606 remix is a good enough reason
IMO, but the Boom Bip and Prefuse versions are also ace. I've never given
the last Tobin album much play time (due to lack of time, not lack of
interest) and I will be revisiting it shortly.
Shitmat : Stealing Gabba
Oh lovely! So much energy, and the best use of bagpipes in ages. Out and out
fun, and I could imagine Aphex spinning it.
Original Hampster : Ain't nuttin' but a G4 thang
Picked this up on the strength of the Numbers remix. And it's good. Cheeky
sense of humour and a good listen too. Is there an album coming out? Is
there much other OH material out there?
Four Tet : Rounds
Uhhh, believe the hype. Genius. It's lovely. Very lovely. Take the first 2
albums, add them together, and throw in a measure of extra goodness and you
know what you're getting.
Broadcast : Pendulum
Been waiting ages. One of my favourite live bands ever (anyone else remember
ATP 2001?) and it's a nice return. Looking forward to the album later in the
year.
Senior Coconut : Smoke on the water
Dreadful. Terribly dreadful. I sometimes can't believe it's Atom[tm]
On the non-electronic tip, and for all you Mike Patton fans, the new
Tomahawk album is great. Best Patton stuff I've heard in a long time.
I skipped out on DJ Shadow : Private Repress. 20 quid - Should I buy it?
Anyone?
Too many records.
